• McDonald's to employees: Avoid burgers and fries - it's risky for your health

http://rt.com/usa/mcdonalds-employees-fast-food-764/
Expressing concern over employees’ health has backfired on the world’s leading fast food producer, McDonald’s. Its own employee resources website recommended workers to avoid burgers and fries whenever possible due to health risks. The McResource site, notorious for giving advice on how to make ends meet working for $7.25 an hour at McDonald’s, has cooked up another gem: the folks preparing and serving McDonald’s food should actually avoid eating it themselves – because it is unhealthy. To illustrate the difference between ‘unhealthy choice’ and the ‘healthier choice’, the website of the food chain that employs some 700,000 people worldwide, for some reason countered graphics depicting a typical McDonald’s meal with graphics very much resembling a meal at the company’s major competitor, Subway: a sandwich with salad and a glass of water.

“Fast foods are quick, reasonably priced, and readily available alternatives to home cooking. While convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast foods are typically high in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk of becoming overweight,” the site said.

Instead of eating a cheeseburger and fries, McResource advises to “Eat at places that offer a variety of salads, soups and vegetables to maintain your best health.” “Although not impossible it is more of a challenge to eat healthy when going to a fast food place. In general, avoiding items that are deep fried are your best bet,” McDonald’s revealed.
Even more stupid considering they give you a free meal on your break, nobody making $7.25 an hour is going to turn that down
I don't really see the issue? I mean their "healthy" product ranges are almost the exact opposite, but apart from that I haven't really seen them try to push their burgers and fries as a healthy choice? What were they supposed to do? "Since you work here, you should eat burger and fries every day"?
Mcdonalds has salads, Fruit Smoothies, and stuff where's the problem with mcdonalds telling them to eat healthier?

I dunno, but in spite of the massive irony of serving unhealthy stuff to consumers, salad sandwiches sound like a decent on-hour break meal. Plus employers have to look out for their employees health and this looks like a way of going on about it.
I fucking love fast food salads
I don't get why everyone's like, bitching about this being hypocritical or ironic. They're just advising their workers to try and eat healthier. It's their choice if they want to eat unhealthily, just like it's the choice of anyone who eats at McDonald's to eat unhealthily. They're giving general, generic advice for better workplace productivity which pretty much most people know.
Even more stupid considering they give you a free meal on your break, nobody making $7.25 an hour is going to turn that down
I never got free meals working at the aussie version of Burger King (Hungry Jacks), bunch of losers fast food places are horrible to work at and I hope you and I never have to
Instead of eating a cheeseburger and fries, McResource advises to “Eat at places that offer a variety of salads, soups and vegetables to maintain your best health.”
If anything I'd say they're actually being good by giving out this advice. Not only are they advising their workers to eat somewhere more healthy, they're not even using the opportunity to advertise their own product. How is this a bad thing?
I never got free meals working at the aussie version of Burger King (Hungry Jacks), bunch of losers fast food places are horrible to work at and I hope you and I never have to
I used to work at a mcdonalds and yeah it sucked, apparently KFC gives you the option of free food or a paid break
Even more stupid considering they give you a free meal on your break, nobody making $7.25 an hour is going to turn that down
Don't know how it works in the UK but over here it's a half-price meal on your long unpaid break and if it's a graveyard shift then it's free.
water a better choice than soda? salad a better choice than burgers? best to avoid deep fried foods for optimum health? well holy shit stop the presses
I suspect it's more of a "don't eat hamburgers and fries all day, every day", but rather eat salad, drink water and have mixed meals in general, like any healthy adult should.
If you know anything about nutrition you would know that Mcdonalds isn't even that bad for you unless you eat large amounts of it almost everyday. Which is the person fault not Mcd's. The most unhealthy aspect of it is that it has a shitload of sodium in their food honestly.
Eat at McDonald's and get your free man tit today!
Don't know how it works in the UK but over here it's a half-price meal on your long unpaid break and if it's a graveyard shift then it's free.
As far as I'm aware, in the UK it's the store's choice as to what they offer their employee's. I knew 2 people who worked for 2 different McDonald's (less than 10 minutes apart, which always baffled me), and one was entitled to free food either at the end of their shift or at break reguardles of how lon gthey worked, while the other had to work a certain number of hours for entitlement during a break and they couldnt get anything at the end of their shift.
Mcdonalds has salads, Fruit Smoothies, and stuff where's the problem with mcdonalds telling them to eat healthier?
Yeah though their salads are not that healthy as well if you looked at the nutrition information on the dressing you would see that it is mostly fat and salt puts the calorie count at 500 calories or more.
This whole employee advice website thing has turned into an unmitigated PR disaster for McDonalds. Ha.
I don't see an issue with this, if you're working at a fast food joint there's a chance that you'll eat there because it's really cheap/convenient for you and maybe you don't know that it's terrible for your health to do so everyday
Yeah though their salads are not that healthy as well if you looked at the nutrition information on the dressing you would see that it is mostly fat and salt puts the calorie count at 500 calories or more.
Doesn't the dressing come in a little packet in the US? If you add on top of your garbage salad covered in bits of tortilla and beef it it's your fault you're getting an unhealthy salad. It's also generally a bad idea to buy a prepackaged salad, specially at a fast food place, but that's out of the question.
There is nothing wrong with this.

I think it's a lot more detrimental to one's overall health when I see some people get to such extremes with health/diet nitpick shit to point of stressing out the mind, as opposed to just making use of a generally healthy diet and eating what you want every now and again, not putting too much unnecessary thought into it. Just let the body process and get rid of the notsogood stuff, it's not going to harm anything unless you go apeshit on it. Moderation, for everything.
Im reminded of that guy who was given tons of money and awards for that documentary all about "if you eat mcdonalds every day its bad for you".
This whole employee advice website thing has turned into an unmitigated PR disaster for McDonalds. Ha.
It really depends on the point of view, as shown in the posts in this thread. It isn't some great ironic revelation that they're serving unhealthy food in their menu (it's not like they have salad options in their menus to combat their unhealthy image). The thing here is humble acknowledgement on the franchises part and suggestions to keep their employees from forming bad diet habits as a result of working in the industry.
But what is the tastier choice?
Im reminded of that guy who was given tons of money and awards for that documentary all about "if you eat mcdonalds every day its bad for you".
Even though that documentary was largely discredited and someone else made a similar documentary where they lost weight and improved their levels by being smart about the food they ate from McDonalds. (Aka low carbohydrates, no bread (but the rest of the burger is okay) and no fries, but salads are cool, and having water instead of soda)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs here's the documentary btw. fat is good for you.
The salads at McDonald's are actually more unhealthier than some of the stuff on their menu. If they're trying to ward their employees off unhealthy choices, they might as well tell them to bring a packed lunch.
Morgan Spurlock also was eating every item on the menu so he was eating all the bad stuff as well as the less bad.
Even more stupid considering they give you a free meal on your break, nobody making $7.25 an hour is going to turn that down
Don't McDonalds do salads and other meals like that? Or is that not part of the free meals for employees deal?
Even more stupid considering they give you a free meal on your break, nobody making $7.25 an hour is going to turn that down
What the fuck? When I worked there they charged me for my goddamn food, and they didn't give us a fridge or anything to put lunches from home in so we pretty much had to eat their food.
