Jared Frank, the Regina man who went from hapless tourist to internet sensation over a nine-second YouTube video of a kick to the head, stands to earn a substantial financial windfall from the experience.
Less than a week after Frank posted his video, it has attracted more than 22 million views worldwide. Frank was recently in Peru and tried to take a video of himself alongside a railway track while a train passed behind. As it turned out, however, a person perched on the front of the passing train delivered a boot to Frank's head. The unusual video has proven to be of considerable interest and has led to Frank being approached by management agencies.
"I got all these different offers ... and they were all legit.," he told CBC News recently, adding it would be great to pay for his trip to South America.
On Monday, after confirming he had agreed to work with a California-based representative called Jukin Media, Frank said he was told his video could earn in the range of $2 to $16 per 1,000 views and he would get a 70 per cent share. Precise details will not be known until YouTube releases its regular mid-month report on view tallies.
However, as it stands now, the formula could generate from $30,000 to $250,000 for Frank.
Frank said he will spend his earnings on film school, adding he is hoping to finance a few film ideas he is working on.
Remember kids. Being stupid is profitable.
That's really quite incredible. im glad hes putting it toward a good use, instead of buying fancy cars and wasting it all.
Still think the conductor was trying to save his head from the piece of metal right on the front of the train.
Woah.
Quick, I need to find something more impressive to get kicked by a guy riding. Maybe kicked by a guy landing a small recreational plane, kicked by a guy riding a tiger. Maybe it could be the new planking, and people will flock to sites all over the world to get kicked in the head?
Kicked by a guy riding an elephant during a blood moon in front of the Taj Mahal.
Genius.

He was, you can clearly see a metal protrusion right behind the conductors foot. Even if it wasn't there the guy deserved a good kick upside the head for standing that close to a moving train.

He's going to make a career out of filming himself standing that close to trains.

Haven't we covered this a ton already? If you look in the following frames it's obvious there was no protrusion.
HUHUHUH I'M GLAD I GOT THE GUY SAVING ME FROM DECAPITATION ON FILM SO I CAN SUE HIM
[editline]22nd April 2014[/editline]
who gives a shit
Because instead of being decapitated or having his skull bashed in he got slightly hurt by a person's boot, otherwise he would be fucking dead
if he was saved, that little shit should be greatful.

From the people who brought you "not reading the article" and "not reading the first post" comes: "Not even reading the entire fucking title"
He was told he would make 2-16 dollars per thousand views. Haha, good luck with that on that short video. That kind of income won't work with such a short video, no one is going to sit through the required kind of ads to watch something shorter than the ad.

Upcoming sequel: shit in magman77's stupid fucking skull because he ain't got time for that shit

If he got the offer before it went into a million he would be laughing it to the bank. The thing is the video is a 22 million and he's only going to get money for momentized views after the agreement. This video is still going to get more views and featured on TV. He just could have received a lot more beforehand.
Just think. There's at least one person in the world willing to try and copy this.
He's going to stand really fucking close to trains until he gets kicked or dies.
I mean it's great he's doing productive things with his money, but shit, what he did was so very stupid and he's super lucky he didn't get any severe injuries or die.
I really hope people don't see this as a license to start being idiots around trains.
If this happened in the USA, the Conductor would be taking legal action to try and get in on the profits

i find that highly unlikely because they'd open themselves up to a serious countersuit
Well ain't that a kick in the head!
Imagine if this guy becomes the next Quentin Tarantino specifically because of this. That would be amazing.

If his movies turn out to be terrible, he can blame it on this event.

What are you doing out there, David Tennant?
I still think it could be fake/staged.
I think getting kicked with a (I assume) steel-toe capped boot at a fast speed would mess up someones neck.
If there really was a metal bar sticking out of the train, that guy's boot was the difference between the video being uploaded to YouTube and LiveLeak
He got fucking rich by getting kicked in the fucking face.
Guys, if one of you see me with a camera while you're driving somewhere, please get on the roof of your car while driving by me and kick me in the fucking face from the roof of your car.
We'll share the profits.
[editline] yes [/editline]
We'll call the video : facekick
[editline] even more yes [/editline]
That is if I stay alive and don't get any permament damage that will allow me to sue you instead.
Har har lets be a idiot and get free money for it. Wish he'd got killed by the train. Hope his 'Youtube Video and Licensing Deals' turn into a train wreck.
That's really quite incredible. im glad hes putting it toward a good use, instead of buying fancy cars and wasting it all.
tbh i'd buy fancy cars and stuff
He didn't really get kicked, the guy just held his leg out.
