Tourism chiefs in New Orleans are set to launch a cheeky 'anti-British' advertising campaign to lure tourists - paid for with $5million of oil giant BP.
A series of TV and newspapers ads will appear across America tomorrow, which includes the slogan: 'This isn't the first time New Orleans has survived the British.'
Small print beneath the slogan adds: 'Right now everyone is welcome, especially our friends from England.'

The campaign comes as the gulf oil spill threatens to damage New Orleans' fragile tourism industry, which is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina five years ago.
The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau came up with the idea. According to blogofneworleans.com, NOCV bureau president Steve Perry said: 'You can't just say we're open, come.
'You have to acknowledge it. It's sorta like the poster with the family in front of the shark tank at the aquarium after Katrina, saying we're pleased to report that this is the only part of New Orleans that's still under water.'
BP wrote a $15million (£10.1million) cheque to promote tourism in Louisiana last month, after the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, according to the Guardian newspaper.
The energy giant handed the state of Alabama a similar amount, and $25million to Florida. All three states will lose millions of tourism dollars as a result of the spill.
Mr Perry added: 'All of the things that visitors come to enjoy in New Orleans remain unchanged by the environmental catastrophe in the Gulf.'

That's hilarious.
This annoys me. BP is a multinational conglomerate. It outgrew England years ago.
What the fuck?
Seriously, freedom of trade is all good and dandy, but I would nationalize all their stuff and money, kick all the management out to the street, and used all the resources to fix as much as possible.
Retarded advertisements are fixing the outcome and not fixing the problem.

That's why you're not in charge

Will people please stop using the Daily Mail as a source, come ON
On topic, I'm British (not that it matters or anything) and I think this is kind of funny.
While I'm sure the tourist board sees it as a delightfully light hearted take on a serious issue, they forget there are a lot of dangerous retards in the Southern USA who will not see it that way and so shall take it at face value.

Have I asked you about this? Oh, I didn't. Too bad.
Well at least BP is contributing to New Oleans to help it back up. You have to remember that the city is still rebuilding after Huricane Katrina.
It's not like it's our fault anyway but I can see where their coming from.

doesn't change the fact what you said is dumb

Pfff hhahahaha

lol
yeah, because a forum isn't used for discussion and if you don't specifically ask for one's opinion they are not allowed to respond to your post.

Reading that with your Heavy avatar makes it a whole lot funnier.
I hope this doesn't encourage more idiots to believe that Britain had anything at all to do with this.

It annoys me too, if it had been Shell owning the rig would there be tonnes of hate guided towards the Netherlands?
I cant think of any other situation where a country has effectively been blamed for something a company has done (I guess it doesn't help that a LONG time ago it was called "British Petroleum", but it lost that name when it merged with an American company). I mean America wouldn't be blamed (as a country) if a Boeing aircraft crashed and killed loads of people, nor would they be blamed as a country if say a fault in a Microsoft product took out thousands of computers.
Although I should point out that I don't think anyone has actually "blamed" the UK for BPs problems. I think its just being reported like that by certain parts of the media in the UK.
I'm english and I have something to say ;
Up yours , USA.

Actually I remember a few Brits cursing America when Kraft Foods bought Cadbury.

That's just as stupid as the people blaming Britain, if not more so (you're condemning an entire country for the actions of a few individuals because they just did that to you)

New Orleans: Trollin' with the best of 'em.

That, and he has no political experience, legal education, or campaign money.
It's really not that bad, people are too sensitive.
For those who don't understand the previous times the British have attacked New Orleans, New Orleans was the site of a battle where Andrew Jackson held off a numerically larger British force during the war of 1812.
I'm British, and I found it funny. People need to swallow their pride.
This annoys me. BP is a multinational conglomerate. It outgrew England years ago.
Meh. It still originates from Britain. It's like if a British person went off and did lots of travelling - they wouldn't be staying in one country but they would still be from Britain.
Anywho, I actually find it quite funny. Nice one, yanks.
Hey I'm British and laughed when I saw it.
I know it's just poking fun at it, the vast majority of people I imagine don't actually blame Britain itself.
The R at the end of the title is lonely

Exactly. It's a funny cartoon, not a political attack on Britain. People need to lighten up.
Maybe those stupid fucks should use the money to clean up the oil
This is just as much of a waste as BP running those "We're sorry" ads
I thought it was funny.
