Located in the Atapuerca Mountains of Spain, the cave is known as Sima de los Huesos, or “Pit of Bones.” Deep inside, among many other ancient human remains, scientists discovered the fragments of a skull belonging to an early Neanderthal ancestor who lived around 430,000 years ago, during the Middle Pleistocene epoch. After piecing the skull together, scientists found two fractures of similar size and shape above the left eye, which they have concluded were the result of blunt-force trauma suffered near the time of death. To put it more bluntly, they believe they have stumbled upon evidence of the world’s first murder. [...] The evidence pointing to homicide for the owner of Cranium 17 (as the skull was identified) might explain, moreover, why close to 30 bodies were found together at the bottom of one Spanish cave. As Sala and her colleagues write in their report: “The only possible manner by which a deceased individual could have arrived at the Sima de los Huesos site is if its cadaver were dropped down the shaft.” If their suspicions are correct, the scientists may have found evidence of the world’s first mass murder—some 230,000 years before the first Homo sapiens, or early humans, appeared in Africa. That violent behavior—including murder—predates modern human society may not come as a shock to anyone. For their part, the researchers took it in stride. “Violence is a very usual behavior for animals,” Sala told the Guardian. “It’s not surprising that interpersonal violence took place [among early humans].”
Source

That's him officer! that creepy skeleton in the museum display
What a sick bastard. Whoever did this couldn't have even been human
Maybe the statue of limitations has passed.
No murder weapon found Clear all charges.
Stuff like this always gets me to thinking how incredible it'd be if we ever created technology that allowed us to somehow piece together these events and represent them in a 3D visualization. Imagine how mind blowing that'd be.
I hope he pulls through
Track the murder suspect down so we can shame the descendants
The fact that this murderer is still lurking in plain sight after 430,000 years ago just chills me to the bone
Death sentence.
Imagine how much fucked up shit other primates and animals did to each other over the course of hundreds of millions of years. None of which was recorded or even perceived except by the participants. If suffering could be quantified, our species's is miniscule in comparison.
Welp, jack the ripper is no longer the hide and seek champion
Use a visual basic gui to track the killers ip address
Track the murder suspect down so we can shame the descendants
At this point, we're all probably related to him. Everyone's goin to jail, yeehaw.
Let's start a riot over this. Anyways, Super cool. It's amazing to find stuff like that.
I think it's a bit silly to call it "the worlds first murder" as if prior to that the world was nice peaceful and nobody killed anyone.
I think it's a bit silly to call it "the worlds first murder" as if prior to that the world was nice peaceful and nobody killed anyone.
I think they meant to say "world's first evidence of murder" rather than "evidence of world's first murder" but english is difficult apparently. And common sense.

Is it still murder if murder wasn't a thing/crime back then? I say he's innocent for lack of structured law system. (but we still don't have a very structured law system today)

It's a bit soon to be joking about this guys c'mon
Double jeopardy guys! The law against murder didn't exist back then, we can't arrest the killer.
