Look Who’s Back, a comedy about the return of Hitler, has become an unlikely hit in Germany, heading to the top of the box office chart in its third week of release. The Borat-style film, based on the bestselling novel by Timur Vermes, puts Adolf Hitler back into German society and utilises the reactions of real people for humour. Over the weekend, it knocked Pixar’s hit adventure Inside Out off the top spot and became the country’s No 1 release. It has already made around £8.5m. The plot imagines that Hitler has woken up in modern day Berlin, with no memory of any event post-1945 and ends up getting his own TV show. The book was a huge hit in Germany, selling 14m copies. The film also highlights the increasing influence of the far right in Europe. “We’re highlighting that the danger of a resurgence is very much alive,” said Wnendt.
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/oct/27/hitler-comedy-look-whos-back-germany-movie-box-office
The film also highlights the increasing influence of the far right in Europe.
Throw the Jew down the Well tier stuff?
Oh my God, I can't wait to see this.
That was fast.
The Borat-style film
Sounds like it's worth a watch.
I wanna see with with english subs :(
According to Wikipedia, the Foreign licence rights have been sold, so there might be an English version made. Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone subbed this version at some point.
Wow Germany didn't ban something with Hitler on it?
If this is like Borat, it seems like it could be really great.
Wow Germany didn't ban something with Hitler on it?
Wow Electrocuter doesn't know shit about Germany?
what the hell papa franku at 1:33
Wow that looks genuinely funny [editline]31st October 2015[/editline] Oh they have actual neo Nazis in there too
Damn, girl in the trailer is hot as fuck, movie looks good too
Wow Electrocuter doesn't know shit about Germany?
I thought that it was still a sensitive subject since there's still stuff that pop up about witchhunts in the news, and overall censorship of Nazi imagery and gore.
Germany allows that stuff if it's considered artistic. Weird way going about it but hey. What about games? Nope. Forget it. Not art. That's how weird Germany is.

But move on and stop trying to sweep it under the rug.
I thought that it was still a sensitive subject since there's still stuff that pop up about witchhunts in the news, and overall censorship of Nazi imagery and gore.
this is making fun of him though, not promoting him, so it'd make sense really.
Nazi imagery is not generally illegal here's a clip of a parody show doing a parody of the german version of "The Office" Swastikas everywhere, given the right context it's not illegal at all. Germany hasn't been really uptight about Hitler for a long time. It's a sensitive subject if american tourist go into clubs and drunkenly growl Heil Hitler and doing the Hitler Salute, wondering why everyone is shocked... It wasn't a problem doing it in a ... uh mannered... civilized way for the last ... 20 years.
Its about time our generation stop trying to atone for something we weren't involved it, acknowledge it yes. But move on and stop trying to sweep it under the rug.
The modern generation wasn't involved in it but 60% of Germans at the time supported Hitler got him elected which allowed him to build up Germany for WW2 and the holocaust. Far right extremism still exists and another holocaust could easily happen again. Even in north America there is alot of neo Nazi retards as well. While modern Germans are not responsible for the holocaust they should always remember so something like it doesn't happen again. At the end of WW2 they should of made sure almost every Nazi was dead because alot of them got away and were able to spread their bullshit dogma around the world.
At the end of WW2 they should of made sure almost every Nazi was dead because alot of them got away and were able to spread their bullshit dogma around the world.
do you understand that this sentiment is inherently fascist and it's exactly what the nazis did
Wow Electrocuter doesn't know shit about Germany?
Woosh.
do you understand that this sentiment is inherently fascist and it's exactly what the nazis did
In hindsight my way of thinking was pretty silly but how else could they have stopped Nazism at it's source? Alot of the Nazis escaped to countries in South America like Argentina and were even able to get into America and then helped found organizations like the Neo Nazi movement. If most of them had been executed at Nuremberg the problem would not be as large as it already is.
this is making fun of him though, not promoting him, so it'd make sense really.
It's only as recently as 2006/7 that Nazi imagery, in the context of humor, mock or derision, has been permitted. What changed this was largely an Anti-Fascist youth organization's use of a Swastika being dumped in a trashcan. The German Supreme Court then found that the use of Swastikas for the demotion of Nazi ideology and ideals was permissible under the constitutional Anti-Fascism laws.

Enforced laws to avoid Fascism :v: Besides, this is pretty clearly satire and if he does what Borat did and point out how bad the mindsets of some individuals are (in this case the German Far Right, not sure what that entails) than its a net positive. Satire is pretty good at stuff like that.

Racism and hatred have been part of human culture for all of recorded history. The Nazis were not the first, and Neo-Nazis will not be the last.
what the hell papa franku at 1:33
Well it was the harlem shake video. One of the fucking weirdest fads
So would you agree that the best way to put out a fire is with a flamethrower?
If a wall of fire runs into another wall of fire and there is no fuel what happens to the fire? It starves to death.
