• 30 years later and 6% of Britons still don't wear seatbelts

It is more than 30 years since it became illegal to drive without a seatbelt, yet up to two million drivers in the UK are still risking it, with 47% not knowing it could incur a fine, according to a new survey. Why is that, asks Luke Jones. It's a minor inconvenience for something that will save your life in an accident.
I don't get why you wouldn't wear a seatbelt. It takes literally zero effort to use one.
22% because they find them uncomfortable
Impacting the windscreen is considerably more uncomfortable.
22% because they find them uncomfortable
So a fucking stunning amount of people find minor discomfort a bigger problem than death? That is equal parts hilarious and pathetic.
I think it's the older generation who grew up without them that don't wear them. I remember my grandma used to just hold it over herself without clipping it in, and saying "I'll just hold it in case the police see"
Twats, its natural instinct for me to do it every time I drive, you would think the only people who don't do this are those who were driving when it wasn't illegal... oh and I also feel unsafe without it on
In the long run, it's a self-correcting problem...
Natural Selection
We have a car which has none and isn't legally required to fit them because when the car was made it wasn't compulsory. I do say I don't like riding in it.

I have to actually tell my friends to belt up when im driving when i do it without even thinking, it's not the drivers duty to make sure passengers are secured now though thankfully, if one of my mates aint got his belt on he gets the fine, god forbid actually being in an accident.
I'm more comfortable sitting in a car seat with the belt on than without it. Feels like I'm missing something without the seatbelt.
My car goes 'bing bing bing' constantly if anyone isn't wearing their seatbelt while it's moving
My car goes 'bing bing bing' constantly if anyone isn't wearing their seatbelt while it's moving
Mine has it but only on the drivers seat unfortunately, had my car 7 years and never knew I had it till a few months back.
I can't be in a car without the seatbelt clicked in. Just makes me extremely anxious. I guess it's the older generation...
Even scary, loud, obnoxious street racing thugs wear seatbelts.
How is it uncomfortable, I barely even feel the things around me, picky people.
So a fucking stunning amount of people find minor discomfort a bigger problem than death? That is equal parts hilarious and pathetic.
Tbh, I don't understand how they find it unconfortable. Are they so fat that the seatbelt is too tight around their torso? Or is it suffocating them through their huge necks? Seriously, using a seatbelt even helps you stick to the seat if your car has those seats that don't really stop your body in place, and, as normal, they save you from accidents. Just the other day, I spun out of a roundabout and ended up on a huge ditch on the other side of the road because my car is complete crap in the rain (and lucky me, it poured buckets of it 5 seconds before), and what held me in place without getting any harm when I hit the bottom of the ditch was the seatbelt. If I had not put it on, I'd probably be shot to the right into the window.
How is it uncomfortable, I barely even feel the things around me, picky people.
It is women who might have a harder time wearing a seatbelt, because of their bodily anatomy. In fact, the only people I know who don't wear seat belts are women. They usually put the belt on, then slip the shoulder belt off.
So a fucking stunning amount of people find minor discomfort a bigger problem than death? That is equal parts hilarious and pathetic.
Not everyone is deathly afraid of dying in a car crash, ya know. Hell the only reason I wear mine is to keep from becoming a bit of debris bouncing down the road(Well, that, and to keep me in the seat to begin with if I have to swerve or hit a pothole or something), I know damn well if I crash my truck I'm dead regardless. It's too old to have any safety features.
Tbh, I don't understand how they find it unconfortable. Are they so fat that the seatbelt is too tight around their torso? If I don't have my belt on and have to swerve hard left I'll end up headbutting the passenger door and probably getting impaled by the shift lever.
because my car is complete crap in the rain
Get better tires then. 99.9999999999999999% of the time when someone complains their car sucks in the rain they have bad tires on the car and that their car is worlds more stable when they have good ones fitted. Maybe they're bald, maybe they're too hard a compound, maybe the tread blocks aren't very well designed, doesn't matter why the tires are bad, but your tires are the problem.
Then there's the people who say seatbelts kill...
My car goes 'bing bing bing' constantly if anyone isn't wearing their seatbelt while it's moving
Taxi drivers that only cover a local area are not required by law to wear a seatbelt for some reason (or so I have had a taxi driver tell me). It's extremely annoying to be taking a 20-25 minute journey and bing bing bing bing is playing the entire time. I don't see how they put up with it.
In the long run, it's a self-correcting problem...
Kind of although it probably has quite a large economical impact with insurance claims, etc. someone dying rather than surviving with injuries has got to work out more expensive to at least one of the parties involved...
After seeing what happens to someone's skull without a seatbelt, I can safely say Idiots
My car doesn't ding at me, but the little seatbelt light is annoying enough to make me put my seatbelt on even when I'm only driving a few blocks.

Driving a car with bad tires is terrifying; driving near someone with bad tires even moreso. Even buying used tires or re-treaded tires is better than driving on bald tires.

If I'd have to come with a comparison of the kind of seats these are, "a retarded, unevolved version of bucket seats" would be a good one. They aren't bucket or sporty seats in the least, but they are soo deep (either purposedly that way or the foam is just literaly dead) that they look like them. Problem is, they aren't snug enough to tuck you into them and keep you from moving. That's the thing, I just fitted new tyres... The problem with my car isn't the tyres. Apparently, everyone with Opel cars from before the 2000's complains about how crappy their cars are. I got both A and B ('89 i think? and '98) and they are complete ASS in what comes to handling. They don't brake well, and the suspension is absolutely bouncey. On top of that, my car is a diesel, and around here, diesel 2-seater cars have almost completely stripped out back, making them essentially a 2-seater with 0 weight on the back since that weight is supposed to be from whatever you put in the trunk. The rounadabout where I crashed is in a slight downhill angle and the road around it isn't leaning to the inside of the roundabout, its leaning to the outside or just not leaning at all. So, if you have a bit of too much speed, you'll just keep on going forward. It's pretty much what happened to me. As soon as I touched the brakes a tiny bit, back end lost traction and begun spinning to the left because of the direction I was going. Tyres don't really matter in this thing. I don't have ABS or anything, so if its a rainy day, the wheels will just slide, and I have the biggest tyres I can put in it, but it still has very bad traction in the rain. Having no weight in the rear also doesn't helps at all. Really, the car is just crap on itself. The only things its good at is saving gas, being pretty unkillable and hillstarts. Chances are, for a bit more, you can get new tyres that are still better than near-mint used tyres though. The rear still has tread though. It's just that it has nothing pushing them down.
Being born in the last 30 years It just doesn't feel right not wearing one. It's like jumping out of a plane with no parachute.
I find it uncomfortable to not wear a seatbelt.

Regardless both have the same result, death by impact at high velocity due to negligence.
