The accident happened Thursday at a meat processing plant in San Luis Obispo, California. The machine's blades "came around and broke his arm and came around again and broke his arm a little further up the next turnaround," San Luis Obispo Fire Battalion Chief Neal Berryman told CNN affiliate KEYT. Berryman told the affiliate the man's head or neck would have been hit next. The man's screaming alerted his coworker, who saw the victim's legs protruding from the machine and switched it off in the nick of time. The man ended up in the predicament, when he tried to yank out some meat that was stuck, and got the long sleeve of his work coat caught in the machine's inner workings, fire officials believe. The meat grinder then pulled him in. A picture taken by a firefighter shows the man entangled in the machine up to his waist -- his legs pointed upward, with rescuers on all sides. Hydraulic tools had to be used to pull the blades apart and free the man, who survived his injuries. Chief Berryman says he gave the man this advice - "buy a lottery ticket because he's the luckiest person around."
What the fuck was he doing to end up like that?! He really is the luckiest man alive... holy shit.
I really wouldn't call anybody that falls into a meat grinder lucky.
I am scared of meat grinders just because of this reason
It is truly a mystery.
I stand corrected. Truth be told, I watched the video but skim read the article. :v:

His fault from the start, as brutal as it is.
That image of the video got me... tried playing the fucker. Seriously spooky shit though. That guy is going to have some major PTSD from this. It reminds me of this:

He's just a... nother brick in the wall.

Plenty of people have lost their arms to lathes. And such literally ripping their arms off.
switched it off in the nick of time.
Which raises the question of why the guy with the long sleeves didn't just shut the machine off himself first? Maybe he thought "If it can't grind that piece of meat that's stuck then it can't hurt me...AHHHH!"
I am scared of meat grinders just because of this reason
Just don't stick your limbs into one and you'll be fine. It's the #1 rule of these machines that people like to ignore and then end up with -1 limb, if they're lucky.
Lathes rip your arm off, and then hits you with it if you don't get out of the way fast enough.
+1 to this. Being a machinist at one point, lathes can completely destroy you. You never wear long sleeves or gloves around these types of machines.
Amazing that he survived.
Hey hey, my county is in the news once again. Industrial work places here are very loose with safety training and rules.
