Texas 'Bathroom Bill' Is Dead for Now After Second Defeat
(AUSTIN, Texas) — A Texas "bathroom bill" targeting transgender people died again late Tuesday along with many of Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's summer demands as an already bruising legislative session was derailed by Republican backbiting that could preview an even nastier 2018 primary season.
It is the second time that North Carolina-style bathroom restrictions have failed to pass in Texas, and Abbott gave no indication he would order weary lawmakers to stay in Austin and try again — which would risk a third failure over what has erupted into one of the most high-profile bills in any U.S. legislature.
Corporate heavyweights from Amazon to Exxon Mobil lined up against the measure, as did some top law enforcement agencies, and opponents celebrated the latest failure despite the support from the governor and influential social conservatives who drive GOP politics and primaries in Texas.
"Today's victory shows what can happen when transgender Americans and their allies stay vigilant and push back against legislation that helps no one and harms many," said Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, a national LGBT rights group.
The 30-day special session actually ended on day 29, as the chambers left early, unable to agree on an Abbott-backed property tax bill.
This is good news for a little while at least. But I'm sure it won't be long till they try this again.
Why are some people so up and fucking worried about what other people do with their bodies? These "Patriots" forget what the word freedom even means.
The 2018 and 2020 races are going to be interesting, to say the least, if all of this republican infighting continues.

it wouldn't be very entertaining if it was.
Why don't some Group Campain for uni-sex facilties, it's not like people have seperate facilties at home , it wouldn't take much to make secure cubicles
I'm choosing to interpret this headline as an undead sex offender who strikes in bathrooms, lives in Texas and goes by the name Bill.
it wouldn't be very entertaining if it was.
Yeah, we'd just have people being treated fairly instead

This gave me a huge laughing fit after rereading the headline.

I witnessed firsthand (with this issue specifically) that our government banning a thing is 100% proof to some that the thing is dangerous.
I watched a classmate of mine literally decide in the moment that trans people must assault innocent bathroom-goers because why else would this bill be in the news?

and have women and men share the same room? the men will have no choice but to drop all sense of humanity and sexually assault the women because thats what these nuts think transgendered bathroom rights do
My restaurant has identical individual bathrooms and that taught me pretty quickly how bullshit it all is.
It's a toilet room. It's an appliance. It's an appliance in a room. Go inside, poop, wash your hands, leave. It should not be more complicated then that.
And makeup doesn't apply to that because the lighting was gunna fuck up your color anyway. /s

I meant individual cubicles for one person at a time, not group unisex faclilities :)
The extra hilarious thing is that often these are the same people who claim businesses should have the right to refuse a service based on race, because it's their business, yet want to enforce arbitrary discriminatory rules regardless of how the business feels.

there really is no reason to not build one singular unisex bathroom with all toilets
my college dorms were all unisex because they needed to be flexable about how many guys and girls floors they had each year.

Just because we're being progressive doesn't mean we also have to have less crappers. Keep the two rooms, just rip the labels off.

I too find it much more entertaining when people who aren't me are denied basic human rights.
Learn what empathy is dude. Every time I see a post from you it consistently suggests you have nothing close to empathy for others. It's a very vital trait for a human being to have and you're going to find it quite difficult to get along with most people if you can't learn it.

damn I'm late but whatever.
I understand empathy very much so. If you look at my posts you'll know that many are devils advocates or are based on the idea of real politik and are designed this way to counter the general vibe of facepunch. To make you think is the goal. Chonch and a few others do this in their own ways but for different reasons, mine is just to provide a logical understanding of the situation at hand. I do denounce morals often because they are counter intuitive to discussion and empathy and only lead to polarization.
I try to be a Brazen head and nothing more. It's a difficult task in a world of disinformation so forgive my faults.
Anyways back on track conflict is human nature. Someone will always be discriminated against and friends will always be favored over strangers. You can cry, you can hate, you can love, you can tolerate. but I prefer to laugh.

"These things don't affect me so I like to troll for my own amusement"
Get real dude, you're not advancing logic by being contrary; there are plenty of actual bigots and hateful people trying to push discriminatory law in the real world, we don't need another 'perspective' on how restricting rights is just a bit of fun.
Hm. Alright. As you wish.

or we just build one bathroom twice the size.
or we just build one bathroom twice the size.
ok i didnt wanna have to say it like this but if I worked/lived/was somewhere that only had 1 bathroom I would be so afraid of making loud shit noises, or stinking up the only place, that I would never ever poop there.
I get that I might be the only nervous public-pooper, but I know I'm not the only one that puts on makeup in the bathroom. You think girls are gunna want the only good mirror in the building to also be the only place to shit?
Jesus, this argument is still going on that transgendered people are all sexual deviants who want to molest your wives and daughters? Fucking hell.
I remember my sister-in-law saying she was grateful that I wasn't a law-maker because I had the GALL to question how they would even enforce such a bill if it were passed. Seriously, how would they? Would they have to pay somebody to stand outside the door and cup your junk as you went in and give you a go/no-go? It's fucking absurd the amount of mental gymnastics and fear-mongering they pull to push this stupid agenda.

I can't talk about it without taking up a page but I'll just say this as anecdotal evidence. I'm trans, but not making steps to transition because of how violent my city is. You wanna know what a trans girl who fears for her life looks like? She has a beard. No trans-woman would do that and saying that has saved my ass so many times I can't count. Those pictures are super old but I still have the same beard because when you look that masculine transphobes won't/can't fuck with you. (again, really don't have the time to explain fully but getting shot is really fucking easy here regardless of gender identity)
Somebody is gunna get straight up beaten in a mens room if this bill get's passed. Imagine being a violent racist during segregation that hates black people for existing and then they start using your fountain. This is 'giving them a reason' to beat us up on a national scale and it only takes one guy to get mad for this to horribly wrong.
All so you can make something that's already illegal, illegal. Better go get my trans-woman rapings in before they actually pass one of these make it illegal for me to do that!

Trying to justify yourself by using Chonch of all people as an example is a terrible idea. Basically everybody here considers him a complete joke at this point. Also that image macro where it shows someone doing something dumb and then going on with "joke's on you, I was only pretending to be retarded!" is really relevant here. If you consistently act that way then that is the impression people are going to get of you. Your posts consistently show a complete lack of empathy. And so you're treated as if you have a complete lack of empathy. If you don't want people to think you're lacking in empathy then don't act as if you are, it's a pretty simple concept really.
Also as Menien Goneld said:

There are a lot of people who seriously make the same (or very similar) points as you do so there's no need for you to play devil's advocate to begin with. And even if nobody was making those points it's not like nobody ever considers them. The idea of someone needing to play devil's advocate is a pretty flawed one to begin with. Most people will internally do so as it is.

I dunno if its something you can learn. Sometimes people are sociopaths.
I dunno if its something you can learn. Sometimes people are sociopaths.
Maybe you can't learn to experience empathy but on a logical level it's definitely possible to at least emulate it. It doesn't take a whole lot of thought to understand why something might make someone suffer and it takes only marginally more to understand that you (general you to be clear, not you in particular) would also suffer in the same situation yourself which is why you shouldn't act like Shirt. consistently does.
