Two men have been arrested, both of them charged with her murder. One of the men, said to be an ethnic Norwegian born in 1975, has several earlier criminal convictions, including some for use of excessive violence. The other man arrested is aged 64, also charged with murder. Both are in custody, undergoing questioning and pleading innocent to the charges against them. Police wouldn’t reveal a cause of death and said they couldn’t reveal any further details after what Oslo vice crimes chief Hanne Kristin Rohde called “an extremely demanding 24 hours.” No information was released as to how long Schjetne may have been lying in the forest where she was found, or what police think happened on the night of her disappearance. Neither Rohde nor her colleague took any questions at a brief press conference Tuesday evening. Schjetne disappeared while walking home from a visit with a girlfriend on the night of Saturday August 4. Her disappearance sparked one of the largest searches in Norwegian history, with hundreds of volunteers joining police in efforts to find the missing teenager or clues to her disappearance. The weeks dragged on with no breakthrough in the case, and Schjetne’s distraught parents ultimately offered a reward funded by anonymous donors for information leading to their daughter’s return. Last week police charged a convicted rapist with making false statements to the police about Schjetne’s disappearance. Rohde said he is not one of the two men now under arrest. Finally came word that police had found the body of a partially hidden person Tuesday night in a forest area behind a semi-industrial area at Kolbotn, south of Oslo. They cordoned off the area, sent the body in for autopsy around 4am and then carried on with another intense investigation of the area. Police revealed little information to the media but the attorney representing Schjetne’s parents told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that they were informed of the discovery of a body, and Rohde said they later were kept informed of developments throughout the day, referring to a “good and tight dialogue” with Schjetne’s family all along. Release of the autopsy report was continually delayed but then came news that police were using specially trained dogs at various locations around Kolbotn, that they’d raided several local businesses, that they’d made arrests and that a public defender, the high-profile attorney John Christian Elden, had been appointed to represent the 37-year-old charged with murder. Police also reportedly raided the home of the other man charged. “He’s undergoing questioning,” Elden told NRK Tuesday afternoon, referring to his new client. “I haven’t had a chance to speak with him yet and don’t know more about the case.” Police in the Follo district where Kolbotn is located had said early on that they weren’t ruling out that the body was the missing teen’s. Rohde said another press conference would be held on Wednesday.
I don't think there is a single person in Norway who is unfamiliar with this case. Since she was kidnapped nearly every media outlet aired 24/7 stories on the case. It's terrible that it happened to end as badly as it could. I can't think of any reason, good or bad, to do something like this.
I can't think of any reason, good or bad, to do something like this.
How come you cant think of bad reason? Some people like to kill just because they like killing and thats a reason for them. But im betting this is probably of a sexual nature
I know this happen every day but, it's just makes me sad that this happened when she was just walking home from a friend. it makes me sad to think that if she said "no i'm busy" she would be alive today :(
How someone can think about hurting a human-being like this cute?
How someone can think about hurting a human-being like this cute?
Hey, You must be new to this world.
what a shame this beautiful, luscious... gorgeous... lusty... girl died
At least they kept looking, good on them.
what a shame this beautiful, luscious... gorgeous... lusty... girl died
What a shame this person died. I would still consider it a shame if it were an ugly girl or a dude.
what a shame this beautiful, luscious... gorgeous... lusty... girl died
for some reason no matter the story, no matter the subject; one or more people find a way to be creepy without even noticing it it's happening more and more frequently too
all that searching and in the end, it's hopeless. Fuck my life. [editline]4th September 2012[/editline]
I can't think of any reason, good or bad, to do something like this.
that's because you're sane, and sane people have no reason to do shit like this.
she's so hot why did she have to die Nah, but seriously I don't understand why someone would want to do this, it must be awful hearing that your daughter was found dead.
Everytime I read a story about someone dying, I can't stand the though of the someone having to tell their mother about that. Imagine it, you are just doing your chores in the house, when the phone rings. You pick it up. God I can't even bear the next few words that will fall.
i would totally bang this dead girl (User was banned for this post ("Creep" - Starpluck))
Creepiest thread 2012 right here folks!
Holy shit, that's like 500m from my old high-school. Creepy.
I think the real News Story is how SN just became scarier than the Dragon Megathread. But seriously, month-long searches usually don't yield positive results.
for some reason no matter the story, no matter the subject; one or more people find a way to be creepy without even noticing it it's happening more and more frequently too
Its called humor. You see in this situation the humor is derived by the poster acting way creepier than he really is. Once you learn to detect and understand humor I'm sure you will most undoubtably enjoy it. It must be so tiring being serious day in and day out, I really do hope you wil manage to loosen up and enjoy the sillier things in life.
what the fuck are you babbling about
I'm just trying to say that sensationalist headlines has been losing all understanding of humor. Everyone tries to be so goddamn politically correct here that it seems most can't even recognize the most obvious of jokes.

A 16 year old girl was killed, I can't understand why someone would find it funny.
i would totally bang this dead girl
Haha stop your killing me. No really. Stop.
What's the point of adding humor in this situation? A 16 year old girl was killed, I can't understand why someone would find it funny.
I just feel like sensationalist headlines has gotten too depressing. What I used to love about this place was that people were able to lighten the mood no matter how depressing something was. I remember always smirking every time I read a thread here because people always seemed to manage to stay light hearted and silly. Nowadays in here everythings always depressing and sad because all people seem to do now is mope and whine in the most censored and politically correct of ways. Most posters here act Like nobles, critizing anything they see as uncivilized in the most uptight of ways. Anybody who tries to even make the smallest of a joke gets critized to an insane degree. All this nonsense has resulted in one of the most uptight forum communities on facepunch. I mean god damn, this was the fucking forum that had an Austin powers pun week!

However I will still find it incredibly dumb to post things like:
i would totally bang this dead girl
[editline]4th September 2012[/editline] Did you laugh?
Creepiest thread 2012 right here folks!
Tulpa madness was worse.

You can be respectful without acting like an emotional sad sack pretending to be traumatized by something that didn't affect them at all. You can also take some humor out of a bad story without being a tasteless inconsiderate jerk. Reality isn't so freakin black and white. I can think what happened is bad, while still managing to laugh at a related joke that may be a bit inconsiderate. What's so bad about letting ourselves go for a joke or too. I'd much rather be happy, if a bit inconsiderate, then to be an inoffensive snob who acts overly serious about every little thing. Also sweb, I never said I found that joke to my liking, and in fact I found it to take things a bit too far. Its rather stupid to accuse me of liking something I never gave my opinion on.
One of the men, said to be an ethnic Norwegian...
That's kind of an odd thing to note. This happened in Norway right? So are they trying to imply crime in Norway is the fault of immigrants or something?
That's kind of an odd thing to note. This happened in Norway right? So are they trying to imply crime in Norway is the fault of immigrants or something?
Well, between 2008 and 2011 100% of all 41 rape cases in Norway were committed by immigrants. It was kind of a big news thing, so now whenever something like a rape or kidnapping happens, it's noteworthy for the news to write the person is Norwegian because it's out of the ordinary. Not trying to sound racist here, just citing statistics.
