It's not really a sequel if it doesn't tie in. And we don't really know how far they've gotten into the plot already. But I'm glad it's still a WIP. Graphics are nice but voice acting and facial animations need a lot of work. Can't wait to see how they implement sanity in this though, it was the ultimate fear factor in Eternal Darkness.
Apperently this was running off the Wii U. Looks like it handles the cryengine pretty well.

It has exactly the same cathedral as Eternal Darkness, complete with the same background music. Also they mentioned the Hand of Jude, a decoy holy relic that Pious used to lure people to the cathedral to sacrifice them to whatever ancient he was serving.
Holy shit, this has the potential of being one of my personal greatest games of the decade. It's just little details in the writing, design. composition and pacing of this 9 minute segment that are done absolutely right. I see a lot of subtlety, it seems to approach its themes from an intelligent, challenging point rather than dumbing down content to be accessible to a broad mass. The last game that blew me away was SpecOps because it's not a product to be consumed but an elaborate, intelligent and necessary cultural comment that experiments with the total negation of everything that makes modern shooters a artistically and culturally worthless mass product for media corporations to shovle money with right wing gun wank idealism and the exploitation of mass hysteria. It's gonna be difficult to top that as far as a developer taking a leap into unexplored territory goes, but I'm seeing a legitimately good designer working to his full potential and I expect great things to come of this
One subtle thing that I appreciate about this so far is the camera angles. It's a nice fusion of traditional third person camera and fixed camera, and it seems to flow quite nicely.
Excited for it. But can their insanity effects really have the same impact they did with Eternal Darkness? If you know about it already then you wont be as impressed, because once the game starts lying to you, like pretending your saves are gone, you will just know its fucking with you.
Terrible voice-acting and facial animations, so much more can be done with that engine in terms of character expression. I know it's super early, but come on you are fucking showing off the game. This has lots of potential but I just don't trust Dyack. Especially when I heard that Eternal Darkness would have been another flop if Nintendo didn't step in and help them polish the shit out of the game. I really like the environment work though, that really stands out to me.

They'll just have to make them a bit more subtle. Remember the fake ammo from the first game?
Wasnt it gonna flop because they wanted to release at the VERY end of the N64 lifespan, but Nintendo said no, its going on the GC.
Not only that, but Nintendo also came in and gave them feedback on a lot of things because they didn't want it to be a major fuck up in the same vain as too human was. Seriously Silicon Knights never had a good track record besides blood omen and eternal darkness. And I heard this is being developed by pretty much the former staff. I am just really wary.
Let's hope they remember everything about ED that was good. Maybe then they won't fuck up. Also I hope they don't fuck up episodic gaming the way other companies did (besides Telltale).
I got excited and thought this was to do with shadow of the colossus
Heh, that chapel in the beginning, just after the camera zooms into the book, looks just like the one in Eternal Darkness Like, almost identical.
I got excited and thought this was to do with shadow of the colossus
How did you think that? The successor to Shadow of the Colossus is The Last Guardian and that thing has been in development since PS3 was first announced.
Looking good, but the mention of community-driven development is a bit scary. That rarely ever works, and I think it'd be particularly disastrous in a horror/suspense game, which relies on consistent tone and vision.
Needs more voice actors from Metal Gear Solid
That church is most definetley Oublie Cathedral.
They should replace Dyack with Hideo Kojima
Heh, that chapel in the beginning, just after the camera zooms into the book, looks just like the one in Eternal Darkness Like, almost identical.
That's because it really is the same one.
Wow those are some really nice character models. Especially the faces.
Wow those are some really nice character models. Especially the faces.
Agreed, although some of the facial animation could use some work. That knight dude's expression feels off.
Oh man haven't heard of this before, read the title, saw the OP saying it should be called a sequel and immediately assumed it was a Shadows of the Colossus sequel so disappointed
How did you think that? The successor to Shadow of the Colossus is The Last Guardian and that thing has been in development since PS3 was first announced.
I never followed PS3 games
How did you think that? The successor to Shadow of the Colossus is The Last Guardian and that thing has been in development since PS3 was first announced.
That game was / is a spiritual successor, it's not an actual sequel to shadow of the colossus
That game was / is a spiritual successor, it's not an actual sequel to shadow of the colossus
That's what I said...
Heh, that chapel in the beginning, just after the camera zooms into the book, looks just like the one in Eternal Darkness Like, almost identical.
The guy is also delivering something to Charlemagne just like in eternal darkness. He better not look at what it is.....
