Under leaden skies, throngs of demonstrators stretching as far as the eye could see moved through Midtown Manhattan late Sunday morning, chanting their demands for action on climate change.
With drums and tubas, banners and floats, the People’s Climate March represented a broad coalition of ages, races, geographic locales and interests, with union members, religious leaders, scientists, politicians and students joining the procession.
"I’m here because I really feel that every major social movement in this country has come when people get together,” said Carol Sutton of Norwalk, Conn., the president of a teachers’ union. “It begins in the streets.”
Climates marches were held across the globe on Sunday, from Paris to Papua New Guinea, and with world leaders gathering at the United Nations on Tuesday for a climate summit meeting, marchers said the timing was right for the populist message in support of limits on carbon emissions. The signs that marchers held were as varied as the movement: “There is No Planet B,” “Forests Not for Sale” and “Jobs, Justice, Clean Energy.”
The smell of all those hippies must have been terrible.

I live 400 miles away from there and I can still smell the pot brownies and greasy hair.
Surprisingly I only smelled weed 2 or 3 times and I was there from the entire thing. Was quite disappointed at the lack of mass groups of hippies invading the city.

i cant wash it off
About time. Legislation to combat climate change needs to be addressed now.
About time. Legislation to combat climate change needs to be addressed now.
We're PAST so many of the critical climate-change deadlines that I truly have no idea what's going to happen.
Not sure what good can really be done at this point. The icecaps are melting at a point that they simply cannot stop now.

The meeting at the UN is on the 23rd with over 125 world leaders attending, making it the largest climate summit to date. I'm still not sure they're going to take drastic enough steps to work towards a solution though.

What would you suggest - do nothing?
Just to put "climate change" into perspective for people who like to put that term in quotes. On a scale of one to fucked, we're at about an 'Oh god what do we do the house is on fire and WHY IS THE FIREHOSE SHOOTING GASOLINE' on the scale.
Live near a coast? Fifty years, a foot of water higher than it is now.
I hope this isn't ruined by idiots that act they represent the entire protest and have really bullshit ideals that have nothing to do with anything.

Our government is combating action on climate change, does that count?

Awesome that means we don't have to do anything. Tell these guys they can go home, there's nothing to be done, no point trying.
Someone was complaining about the smell earlier. Just thought it was a skunk outside.
Really we can fix this, we just need to actually get proactive and actually work to take carbon out of the atmosphere on a mass scale.
A couple of my friends were there, if I didn't have work I would have gone.

It's never too late to stop doing things that will make it worse. It's guaranteed to be bad, but the more action government takes now the less of a headache (and expense) it will be later.
Well global warming is just a liberal conspiracy to enslave our economy to China and kill coal powerplants and force us to a third world lifestyle while simultaneously taking our guns and our raights away.
-said every party line republican lately
If 97% of civil engineers said a bridge was defective then I'd probably let the dumbass tea partier drive his massive fucking SUV over it
Neil Degrasse in COSMOS described the situation pretty accurately with lead which was a similar problem a long time ago. Corporations tried to fund lots of false studies and do lots of evil things like make lead childrens toys because lead being seen as dangerous was inconvenient for them.
Yet nobody is protesting the constant militarization of police, the involvement in droning many civilians in both Yemen and Pakistan, and the abuse of children in the school systems. While climate change is indeed a concern, I don't know why they are never protested.

Well, China is largely responsible for much of this climate change, you don't see the scale of China's polluted waters or air in America. While America is polluted, it just isn't near as bad as China's.

So you would rather we leave all that money buried in the grounds, or charge people money to dig it up? And I bet you vote Labour too! :v:

Sometimes I feel like we live in the Twilight-zone.
Fox news said that every one of them should be arrested and laughed at because protesting for a measly theory that has been disproven is stupid way to do things. Nojokelol

Which is exactly what happened with occupy wall street.

Let me guess, Sean Hannity? He's pretty much the worst of the worst at Fox News and I think he's the only one there that would say something that stupid.
Update: Someone was arrested finally on this second day protest...
People are bitching about how police are filming them... which is really ironic
But wouldn't a massive amount of people doing a combined physical exercise create a large quantity of CO2 in a short period?????
Imagine having to get to work with this going on.
