WASHINGTON (AP) — Bernie Sanders is leaving open the possibility of another presidential bid, saying in a Thursday interview that he wants to focus on helping the party rebuild its base after Donald Trump's victory.
"Four years is a long time from now," said the 75-year-old Vermont senator, noting that he faces re-election to the Senate in 2018. But he added: "We'll take one thing at a time, but I'm not ruling out anything."
Sanders gave voice to the frustration among many liberals in the aftermath of Trump's stunning triumph over Hillary Clinton. He told The Associated Press in a phone interview that millions of working-class voters' decision to back Trump was "an embarrassment" to the party and that Democrats must take a strong stand against the role of corporate interests in politics
I don't want to be mean but I think he'll be too old by then. He'll be 79; Trump is already the oldest American president ever.
We need young progressives now.
his ambitions would require such a huge change that it would not really be possible to achieve
Just think, Bernie Sanders would've been President if he had been the Democratic nominee.
Save us at the end of these 4 years Bernie
Let's hope he makes it that long.

Remember when Trump becoming president was impossible?
his ambitions would require such a huge change that it would not really be possible to achieve
He'd set the first steps towards them, change will never be instanteous. He'll lay the foundation for future generations to build upon.
I think he's too old by then but his policies are the right path forward for the Democrats though.

He just needs to pick an amazing running mate somehow. It would be worth it.

so when can we get a kid president for once
his ambitions would require such a huge change that it would not really be possible to achieve
would they though?
I think he'll be too old by then, but I think keeping his name in circulation is a good move - if he's in great health at that point in time I don't think it'd the dumbest thing ever, but a more prudent move would probably be endorsing a younger, similar candidate after having rumours of a run having a go around the news cycle.

Please please please please!!
Hell, if you can't run Bernie then find some young politician with similar views and passion and back them to the hilt!

Bernie for president with a younger VP with similar views would be perfect.
bernie biden let's go
At that age the stress of presidency would probably kill him. They should focus on the future, on a younger generation that will lead the party in the next decades.
please please please please please, if there's one person who can reverse 4 years of Trump, it's Bernie
I think Bernie will do best watching the potential candidates for 2020 and figuring out who to back, an early endorsement from him could be a strong boost in the 2020 primaries. Running at 79 is just insane
Especially with this well-deserved defeat showing that the working class won't buy the traditional new democratic shit any-more, there's already some good options for 2020

This is the other course of action. In my opinion, until a qualified doctor says otherwise, he's healthy to run.
How is he going to beat Kanye though?

America should lower the minimum age to be president then. If you're old enough to vote you're already old enough to run for any other political office so why not president? I'm not expecting an 18 year old to run for president and be taken seriously of course, but I still think the rules should be changed so that anyone old enough to vote is old enough to run for president.
If his mental faculties are intact and he's open about his health I can see it working out. Plenty of running mates he could pass the torch to if he saw a decline in health.
Welp, guess we've got four years to figure out brain uploading or something, because Bernie's probably not going to live another eight years, especially not with the stress of being president for four of them.
We need the young version of him, Tulsi Gabbard.

Got shunned by the DNC for supporting Bernie and his polices, AND is a veteran (for that patriotism street cred.) Might be what they need.
Also looks like Carmen Sandiego.

Why not a Sanders/Tulsi or Sanders/Feingold ticket?

Yea, its not like he nearly won the candidacy and still has a massive following or anything like that.
You can almost say the Democrats lost the general because they rigged the primaries in Hillary's favor. If this election showed anything, it was that Americans are sick of the broken status quo. Thats why Sanders nearly won the primaries and Trump won the general.

I'm convinced if Bernie had an extra half year during the primaries, he would've overtaken Clinton and won even with the bias.

I might be wrong, but didn't Hillary's campaign cost end up being largely higher than Trump's? A lot of money trading hands and nobody falling for it.
Then compare that to Bernie, who managed just fine on individual supporter donations.
Maybe next time the DNC will learn from their mistake and let the candidate that people actually want run.
