An Egyptian court has sentenced a four-year-old boy to life in prison for “committing murder” when he was aged just one. Ahmed Mansour Karmi was not in court on Tuesday when he was convicted of four counts of murder, eight of attempted murder, one vandalisation of property and another count of threatening soldiers and police officers - all before his second birthday. Ahmed was one of 115 defendants who were all handed life sentences at the same time at the court in western Cairo for crimes allegedly committed in early 2014. His defence attorney, Faisal al-Sayd, told the Jerusalem Post the child’s name had been added to the list by mistake but the court did not pass Ahmed’s birth certificate on to the judge to prove he was born in September 2012. I highly doubt the child will actually be imprisoned. He was sentenced in a batch along with 115 other people. The case moved from civilian to military court and the defense attorney said the judge "did not read the case." I'd assume that the judge will reverse this sentence for the boy now that it's made the news. The more disturbing part of this story is the huge volume of people who are being tried and arrested by military courts in Egypt right now. It's shocking.

He actually thinks they're further to the left now than ever before. He told me stories of the executions he saw while living outside of cairo, including one of a 3 year old boy because he "kissed" another 3 year old. He went back during summer and told me that they're now far more tolerant than they've ever been.
Surely someone in the judicial system must've realized how retarded it sounds to have a child committing murders at an age where he couldn't even eat solid food.
3yo
Didn't we have a thread on this when it happened? I can't exactly remember, but I think we did.
This monster deserves three life sentences three life sentences for all the years he's been alive
I hear he was asked to make a statement about his victims and just laughed adorably.
What's so significantly disturbing is that Egypt routinely hands out batch death sentences (i.e. in the 100s) in absentia. To hear the judge say he "did not read the case" is truly concerning for Egypt's judiciary.
I hear he was asked to make a statement about his victims and just laughed adorably.
Sick fiend, only the spawn of hell could do such a thing!
It's unfortunate that Egypt's justice system is incredibly backwards, if not corrupt to the core. Justice in Egypt espouses retribution to the greatest degree, and it seems like they have no reservations with skipping some due process to acquire a punishment. This case shows clearly that their entire system needs to be restructured from the ground up because it's really bad.
What kind of judge hands out a verdict without even reading the case? What a fucking banana republic.
What kind of judge hands out a verdict without even reading the case? What a fucking banana republic.
Wrong term. Egypt was fucked ever since the Arab Spring at Midan at-Tarir, way too many factions vying for control, and the actually rational protesters and revolutionaries were split and became disorganized. They were so damn close to achieving real democracy, but the huge mistake was letting the military take over permanently and giving up after Mubarak was thrown out.
i hope this doesn't affect them from getting a job or applying to get into another country or something
From what I've read elsewhere, it's another Ahmed karmi they just went with the first one they could find an address for. No they didn't actually lock up a 4 year old We should be more concerned about how 115 people were sentenced at once
