10% of companies bidding to build the Great Wall of Trump are owned by Hispanics
Ten percent of the companies interested in bidding for the first stage of the construction of Donald Trump’s border wall with Mexico are Hispanic-owned businesses, as construction firms wrestle with the morality of profiting from the controversial infrastructure project.
More than 600 businesses have formally registered interest since 24 February, when the Department of Homeland Security issued a presolicitation notice for contractors to perform the “design and build of several prototype wall structures” for the border.
A Guardian review of the companies reveals that 62 are “Hispanic American Owned” businesses.
“I think the wall is a waste of time and money,” said Patrick Balcazar, the owner of San Diego Project Management, PSC, a design-build construction firm in Puerto Rico that is listed as one of the Hispanic companies involved.
“For environmental reasons, it’s dumb. From an economic point of view, it’s dumb.” But, he added, “I defend your right to be stupid. If you want to put up a wall, I’m going to put up the best wall I can and I’m going to pay my people.”
The presolicitation notice, which provides few details beyond asking for 30ft tall “concrete wall structures”, is the first step toward fulfilling Trump’s campaign promise of building a “great, great wall on our southern border” to keep out Mexican immigrants, whom he has characterized as criminals and “rapists”.
During his first week in office, the president signed an executive order to move ahead with “existing funds and resources” to start construction, which he once promised would be paid for by the Mexican government. Only about $20m in funds currently exist, according to documents reviewed by Reuters. That amount would cover about one to two miles of the 1,000-mile, $21bn project.
Irony is bitter sweet.
Snip, wrong thread. Damn it.

How is it ironic? The wall is to keep out illegal immigrants, not hispanics.

The mindset of "Illegal Immigrant = Hispanic" that most people have.

Illegals from Mexico, which is a hispanic country.
it'd be ironic if all that tax money for trump's worthless moneysink ended up going to mexican companies
Let's stop playing Trump shell game alright? You're not fooling anyone trying to act as if this shit train isn't fueled by intense tribalism. The wall was is massive finger to Mexico/hispanic people and an attempt to divert attention and public outrage over economic and criminal issues toward an easy scapegoat.
It's been a topic of conversation for a lot longer than Trump has been around and it's always been about illegal immigrants and drugs.
I don't even think the wall is a good way to do it, but to equate hispanics and illegal immigrants is just silly. There are tons of hispanic people who already live in the US as citizens and they have zero to worry about.

I don't think anyone actually thinks this. It's just an easy way to demagogue the issue by making it seem like being against illegal immigration from Mexico is a racist thing.

What other ethnicities are crossing our southern border illegally?
What other ethnicities are crossing our southern border illegally?
Uh, the Magyars? God damn Maggys, coming over to America with their goulash and their fucking... Uhh.. I don't know enough about Hungarian culture to find a second thing to be racist about, but I'm sure there's something I hate!
What other ethnicities are crossing our southern border illegally?
What other country borders us and has had millions of people illegal immigrate across its border?
What other countries share a border with us and have millions of people who've illegally immigrated?
It's improper to answer a question with another question.

My question shows how deceptive yours was. You posited a leading question that didn't honestly present the issue.
Yes, of course the wall only really effects hispanic people, but it's also the case that hispanic people are the only people group that borders us and has a history of illegally immigrating.

Answering a question with another question is often the best way to uncover false underlying presuppositions.

Well it seems I accomplished what I set out to do. I have helped you learn why this is ironic. Glad to have been of service, my man :)

That's just dumb. The wall is about illegal and not illegal, not about hispanic and not hispanic. Irony would mean that people who were supposed to be kept out (illegal immigrants) are building the wall.
For example, it would be ironic if illegal immigrants built the wall.
[editline]11th March 2017[/editline]
Your argument is equivalent to saying that we are only trying to keep out people from the southern hemisphere, therefore african people building the wall is ironic because they are also from the southern hemisphere.

So you're telling me that you don't see a lick of irony in a wall built by Hispanics to keep Hispanics out?
I'm surprised it's just 10% considering the bid on the wall is a estimated 25 billion dollar contract.
So you're telling me that you don't see a lick of irony in a wall built by Hispanics to keep Hispanics out?
No? Because it's not the relevant characteristic. It only has any semblance of irony because of the false narrative set up by certain groups on the left that the wall is a racist endeavor meant to keep hispanics out, as a group.
Would you find it ironic if people from the southern hemisphere helped build it? If not, please explain why your examples makes any more sense.

Well I'm not surprised. You people have ways struggled with humor anyway. I've done all I can. You can't be helped lmao

In other words, you have nothing to actually offer to the conversation beyond asserting that you're right and throwing personal insults.
This is not really surprising if you come from the south. Everything is built by Mexicans. I wouldn't expect any different. The people that immigrate from Mexico are poor, whether they're legal or not, and often resort to hard labor jobs like construction and landscaping and then send money back home to Mexico. You go to the South west and the stereotype of Mexicans waiting around Home Depot for work is a reality.
Regardless of where the company is from, it's not going to be white people building that wall, that's for sure.

Our old (Mexican) landscaper says they should close the border because all the Mexicans are taking his jobs. :v:

I live in a city that has right around a 75% hispanic population, according to official numbers. Hell, my next door neighbor can barely speak English.
I know TONS of hispanic people I live by, work with, see on a regular basis, Etc. who are super annoyed with illegal immigrants.

Illegal Immigration is only such a big deal in the first place because of how limited legal immigration is. It's not just a matter of people not bothering to go through legal channels or being unable to, there is literally a hard cap on how many people are allowed to immigrate to America per year.

On one hand, yes, you're right. On the other hand, the only solution would be totally open borders, and that's not going to happen.
No one has a right to immigrate.
[editline]12th March 2017[/editline]
It's kind of like saying the only reason we have thieves is because we don't let people take things without paying. I mean, yes, that's true, but it's not a reason to get rid of the law.
I'm going to die laughing when this shit is inevitably built by illegal immigrants.

Maybe it's a reason to laxen the restriction.
I'm going to die laughing when this shit is inevitably built by illegal immigrants.
If this wall ends up being built by illegal immigrants and then they all get deported then all the money used to build the wall will go to mexico instead of going back into the economy
"yay".

Why do people act like it's either a wall or totally open borders that people can waltz on through? You realize that we can have immigration law reform without just erasing our borders right?

It amazes me how you come into every trump thread, throw out random questions, act smug and end it with "lmao" without actually proving any point whatsoever. It is the most useless post I have ever seen, its incredible really.
considering one company submitted a bid for a "sustainable" border wall
http://www.treehugger.com/modular-design/can-border-wall-mexico-made-shipping-containers-be-eco-friendly-and-sustainable.html
and others have submitted joke bids, i'm pretty sure some of them have no intention of actually building the wall
on the other hand, some probably do. I hope the joke ones can sue the government to hold up the construction though
