Rio has won the olympic bid and is going to host the 2016 summer games. Good for them. More will come when news stories get posted.

This.
I was hoping for Madrid.
I wanted Tokyo :(

It's the first Olympic game in South America, probably a big reason.
This is the first time the olympics will be in South America don't ya' know

Rio is notorious for it's crime though
I was hoping they would pick Chicago so they could finally get the Chicago Spire off the ground.
Congratulations to Rio, I was hoping for Doha, though...
Oh well, 2020 summer games?
Probably not.
A man can dream. :crying:
I'm happy that Brazil got it. Good to know that South America is going to get the world limelight for a change.
Chicago doesn't need it, many Olympic cities go into heavy debt after the games are over. I heard on CNN that Australia spends over 3.2 million a year to keep their unused facilities in good condition.
maybe they'll do a china, and ban everyone from the city who's likely to be a criminal

And Beijing totally isn't

I'm brazilian, and I can prove this. But hey, they'll probaly make it safe for a while.

Oh no, Brazil and South America do get world limelight pretty often.
Americans just don't realize it because 'soccer' isn't so popular over there.
This must be big for South America/Brazil none the less.
I just hope where they host the events doesn't become too crowded to the point where it'd collapse like what happened with the Fonte Nova football stadium back in 2007.

So South America only gets the spotlight because of soccer?
Usually when a nation gets the Olympics, more than sports are discussed about the region.
