I know a place to get cheap LP's and I was wondering id it's worth for me to buy a turntable and some records. A setup I'm looking at would be a big investment, and I don't want it to end up as a paperweight. Is vinyl worth it? Should I buy the turntable and Lp's.
Facepunch says yes
That's all up to you. I love my vinyl, but it's all based on personal preference.
I'd say it's worth it but be prepared to spend a lot. You'll spend the most on vinyl but don't go for the cheapest turntable either.
Also we have a thread for all things vinyl:

It was an investment which made me care about the music I bought a lot more. It's a much more gratifying experience I think, but it isn't cheap
It's a much more organic sound, do it.

This definitely.
If you buy right, the set up will last years, and vinyl are quite durable, so they will last too, so it's something you can pass down onto your kids too. And I agree with dopey trout.
It's actually quite good. But treat a record like an investment, I learnt the hard way to check for warping and scratches etc.
Okay. Whats would be the price of a "Good" turntable?

That I can't tell you seeing as I have no clue about Canada.

Exactly like the US. Would I just need a turntable? If so is $100-$150 good? I'm not really gonna collect I just found a place near me that sells ITAOTS and alot of stuff for $15 a piece, wanna try it.
I've always been interested in Vinyl but I don't know shit about it.
Yeah, they end up being cool collectibles if you wait 999 years. So I'd say its worth it.
I have a hard time buying brand new vinyl because of the price, but if you go to yard sales, flea markets, and record stores that resell older albums, it's like, $5 an album. So yes it's worth it.

I'd like to say "Hell yeah, it's awesome", but in my personal opinion... it depends what music you were going to get.
Sometimes albums are released on LP just for the sake of it instead of doing what the format does best.
Ambience.
There's like a thick coating of smooth over the sound you are listening to, most of the time it makes the experience better but it's not absolutely necessary.
You wouldn't buy a turntable to listen to techno.
I dunno, some electronic music sounds really cool on LP.
Alot of people on FP seem to be into vinyl's but I'm really into CD collecting and shit

I'll probably get NMH, Radiohead..
If you're willing to pay quite a bit more for your music then definitely
Well I'd say no if you don't have the proper set-up. If you don't have good hardware then it isn't worth it, but if you're ready to invest in a quality turntable and the rest of the equipment I'd go for it. Luckily for me I got all my stuff handed down from my dad.

Well, I have Fleet Foxes on vinyl... sounds absolutely amazing compared to the thin sounding MP3.
As for Radiohead, I do have OK Computer and it does sound really nice on a good stereo. But it's pricey.
Go for it..

Yeah, I'd dig around for classic stereos because nowadays they digitize everything you hear and create really crap distortion.

Most new albums come with a free mp3 download or even a CD copy.
Tells you how much they care for digital copies. :smugdog:

No I mean in terms of currency but yeah 100-150 is a good price range.

Yeah I just love it. The whole set-up is from the 80s. Everything is so analogue and retro.
I need to get a player, I want to Listen to my For Whom The Bell Tolls Single, Olias of Sunhillow, Don't Fear The Reaper, and Dark Side Of The Moon.
