Just when you thought the everyday etiquette of how men are expected to integrate with women couldn’t get any more confusing, Dame Helen Mirren has announced, of all things, that cuddling is sexist.
Speaking yesterday to the Mail On Sunday’s You magazine, Mirren, 70, said: “It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung around their girlfriend’s shoulders. It’s like ownership. Of course, when you’re young, you want the guy to take your hand and look after you.
“But when I see girls being leaned on, I want to say, ‘tell him to get his damned arm off your shoulder’.”
Now, regular readers will know I collect “sexism is everywhere!” stories like a sheep attracts ticks. I try not to, but I just can’t seem to stop picking them up. But even I didn’t see “teenage cuddling: it’s a tool of the patriarchy!” coming.
"I didn't have sex for the last 50 years, that's why I'm angry"
I bet she has a huge sign on her door stating "No affection beyond this point" and once you ring the bell a huge red guy with horns on his head opens up, saying "Welcome to hell, motherfuckers!" And that's just her butler.
On a more serious note though: Fuck you, I cuddle my girlfriend all I want.
And cuddling is the only thing I've got going for me. Well time to pack it in. I'm a giant sexist and I'll die a giant sexist.
Forever alone.
Might as well label every male person as sexist while you are at it.
i wish i had someone to hold arms with

Isn't that basically normal for academic feminism? All white people are racist and all men are sexist, even if you don't recognize it.
why is this even news though
she's just some random actor i've never heard of
Ughhh stop drawing attention to these people! These threads just play out the same way every time.
Like these are just the shittiest threads in FP at this point. I'm not defending this chick, but people complaining about feminism or SJWs have really become as or even more annoying than the SJWs themselves.

At least you're a giant
The one thing I don't understand to this day is why people take the opinions of celebrities over normal people/scholars/teachers/ect. I mean they probably just got done doing doing a line of coke off a golden toilet seat while crying.
It's only sexist because it's not a girl having her arm over a guy's shoulders.

Really? Do you actually think this or is this a joke? Because you're just repeating something you probably saw in a movie or you think every celebrity is Lindsay Lohan circa 2006.

It makes it worse that this obviously being the sensationalist headlines corner that the articles posted about these topics take the most ridiculous inflammatory angle. I read this article much more toned down in the times and Mirren was literally saying she finds it uncomfortable when men put their arms around women's shoulders in that weird protective stance. I find it a bit annoying too so my boyfriend puts his arm around the waist same as I'd do to him. It's not FEMINISTS AGAINST CUDDLING but oh well because that's all this thread will be about.

No one reads anything! They just love to hate SJWs and they look like the biggest idiots trying so hard to hate.

To be fair, I'm usually too tall for a woman to throw her arm over my shoulder.
Its because women like to control men she feels uncomfortable seeing this possessive stance

Oh my god.
:snip: Nevermind I goofed.
Because we think they have some form of "success" when many of them are miserable. Idk why the words of famous actors are so valued since their talent is literally pretending to be someone else (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Sounds like this lady is just trying to ride the progressive train to fame, would be best to ignore her.
Nice pop-psychology. Please do make more sweeping statements about complex human beings and their politics. You seem informed.
Being attracted to women overall is sexist. This is no surprise.
this belongs in lmao pics, not the news forum
I am a guy who would love to get leaned on by a chick. Some people find comfort in it.

This is Helen fucking Miren, she doesn't need a train to fame, she's a huge star already.
(Doesn't validate her point, but damn, get with the times)

good god
I find one thing funny about this.
She's riding a feminism train yet she prefers to be referred to as a "dame".
Prior to the 17th century a woman could only be titled a 'dame' if she was a wife. Not just any wife, a wife to a knight.
The title 'dame' has its roots in Monarchical patriarchy because no woman could claim that title unless she had been claimed by a male knight.
So if she really wants to complain about "the patriarchy" she needs to renounce her damehood because of its patriarchal roots.
fucking celebrities. Doesn't matter how famous they get, they can still be dumb as fuck.

You sure caught her in a trap of lies hypocrisy, bud.
Hahah, this article is such garbage. It's roughly one paragraph about her comments, and not even the full conversation, and then a pointlessly long opinion rant about her and feminism as a whole. Though I'm not surprised to find this here. Anti-sjw circlejerking seems to be the hot ticket to being cool in Sensationalist Headlines, since I see it pervading so many threads here, regardless of whether or not the article has anything to do with it.

Wow i really dig ur passive aggressiveness
Wow i really dig ur passive aggressiveness
It is hardly passive. Seeing people just be shitty just because it's fashionable on the internet to hate anything that may be challenging is the most disgusting demonstration of vanity and arrogance I have seen in some time. I feel like I am reading posts from actual middle-schoolers who have never met women, let alone people, in their entire lives. It's repugnant.
why is this even news though

Helen Mirren is one of Britain's most famous actreses. You don't get a Damehood for nothing.
