President Castro said the US should drop its demand for regime change on the communist-run island. That would allow both sides to continue work on improving relations, he said. ... "We do not ask the United States to change its political and social system, nor do we agree to negotiate over ours," Mr Castro told legislators at the closing session of the parliament in the capital, Havana.
Doesn't Cuba have a really good medical field that's held back by the embargo?
Doesn't Cuba have a really good medical field that's held back by the embargo?
Cuba have a lot of good things that's held back by the embargo
Cuba have a lot of good things that's held back by the embargo
Cigars and women oh ho ho ho
I'm pretty sure I've seen a source once or twice saying Cuba has the best education system in the world.
Only Israel still backs the US's illegal embargo of Cuba.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a source once or twice saying Cuba has the best education system in the world.
It basically uses the Soviet education/medicine system and it was considered the best/one of the best in the world at the time it was around, so it might as well have.
Won't happen, not now and not in the near future. We all know how much the US hates admitting they're wrong.
Won't happen, not now and not in the near future. We all know how much the US hates admitting they're wrong.
also Israel.
I'm surprised the US hasn't removed their embargo on Cuba yet. I mean, come on, sure there was the missile crisis. But that was 60 years ago! Wasn't that the reason they enforced the embargo in the first place?
Cuba have a lot of good things that's held back by the embargo
classic cars :(
With the current state of Cuba do to our like... Two country embargo... It's pretty much free labor, and cheap production facilities.
I'd like to have a vacation in Cuba. I hear it's quite nice. Unfortunately, it's impossible to get a flight to Cuba from America. So I'll either have to go through Canada or Mexico and convert my American currency to either Canadian or Mexican. It's illegal in America to spend American money in Cuba. This embargo does no good at all. Cuba is a peaceful nation.
A woman my mother works with has family in Cuba, and, I'm not sure how, but they routinely go on vacation there. She says it's really nice.

To think this only happened because Castro wasn't given fair treatment when he visited the u.s
Just realized this embargo is older than the current U.S. President. That's kinda crazy.
Would like to visit Cuba someday. Hopefully without having to go to Canada first.
It's been a war of attrition from the start. The CIA used to bomb their sugar mills, since it was their main export, which completely shattered their economy. I guess the US still believes they can starve them out. It's sad too because their economy (GPD/capita) as it is right now rivals that of China and Brazil, two leading competitors of the US. Since their economy would be a lot better off if they could actually trade freely it would be interesting to see how strong their economy could become; if only to show that there's an alternative to the "free market circle-jerk" that we're used to. Maybe some of their concepts of social welfare could spread over the strait and teach Americans how to treat each other too.
If you're in Cuba, how can American laws dictate that you're not allowed to spend their money?
America has tried to do shit like make it illegal to visit a country where drugs are legal and do drugs there.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a source once or twice saying Cuba has the best education system in the world.
And the people get paid 20$ a month for it too
If the Castro family stepped down from power and allowed free elections the US would probably dissolve the embargo
I guess the US still believes they can starve them out.
It really helped Castro unite his people against an enemy.
If the Castro family stepped down from power and allowed free elections the US would probably dissolve the embargo
that is such a damn cop out. the US doesnt give a fuck about free elections they just give a fuck about getting the castro family out. US has shown time and time again that they don't really care about "spreading democracy" they just want to spread US hegemony and they would gladly let another dictator rule if they promise to obey US interests.
I cannot beleive this whole trade embargo is still a thing.
A woman my mother works with has family in Cuba, and, I'm not sure how, but they routinely go on vacation there. She says it's really nice.
Whenever the embargo does get lifted it's probably not going to be as nice anymore, people are going to flood to it.
If I remember correct, the main reason the embargo is still in place is because all the Cuban exiles living in Florida throw tantrums every time there's talk of lifting it.
I'm surprised the US hasn't removed their embargo on Cuba yet. I mean, come on, sure there was the missile crisis. But that was 60 years ago! Wasn't that the reason they enforced the embargo in the first place?
its like the war between the koreas, people have kinda forgotten about it and politicians haven't had any reason to reverse stuff. the embargo should end already its not like we're really doing anything at this point, and their goverment isnt actually as bad as they used to be
If the Castro family stepped down from power and allowed free elections the US would probably dissolve the embargo
Honestly i may be wrong but the Castro family helped build Cuba to what it is today and they still continue to do that, the US doesn't give a fuck if their still communist they just want them sucking their dicks and that won't be happening any time soon
