I read the rules, but apologies if I'm fucking something up regardless.
So I've got a 1981 Honda CB750, and something related to the throttle and the cable has broken.
I've had it for only a few months now (got it for $1650, low miles (10k when I got it), and despite sitting for a while it runs well), and as it's been getting colder it's been harder for me to start the thing in the mornings.
Well, this morning it was taking longer than usual, and I guess I turned the throttle a little too hard (I mean I was getting frustrated but I really didn't think I did it that strongly), heard a snapping/popping/plastic breaky kind of sound, and now the throttle just rotates freely. I was supposed to drive home for Thanksgiving but that might not happen at this point, so does anyone know how to fix or troubleshoot something like this?
It's pretty easy to disconnect the throttle cables, but you'll probably need to remove the gas tank to get to the carb connection. If you can get to a shop and buy a new throttle cable, you might be able to make it back home for Thanksgiving.
Well then. I guess I'm lucky to have friends that know more about bikes than I do. Are throttle cables generally expensive?

I think you may be right about having to remove the gas tank. The cables are attached in the handle/kill switch box thing alright, and if I pull on the frontmost cable it just keeps coming.
There should be two cables.
A push and a pull under twenty each. I vote your pull broke actually I know it will.
Look at motion pro for cables. Easy job.
Turn pepcock off remove fuel line. Do not break pepcock. Unbolt tank on the old Honda and pull toward rear and lift off. Sit of towel.
For the throttle, should be 2-4 jis screw ( not Philips) get the correct screw driver. Once it is unbolted it should come apart and u should see how it works.
Should take no longer than two hours if you have never had it off before. On my cm I can remove the carbs on 15 minutes now. Good time to check your choke since it is hard to start. It should close all the way when pulled.
