Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church said the installation would bring doom on the city, calling it a "demonic symbol."
"This symbol of triumphant evil will rise above the city, becoming practically the highest object in the city," church spokesman Vsevolod Chaplin told the capital's Govorit Moskva radio Tuesday.
"One shouldn't be surprised if afterward the city will start taking a turn for the worse," Chaplin said.
That thing would have been cool as fuck, but it had to be ruined by paranoid people.
Just say that Putin approves it and that it is a symbol of hope for the oppressed Russian minorities living in Middle-Earth and they'll change their tune.
Where it was supposed to be:

It's probably just to avoid the Russia = Mordor jokes.

Mordor isn't nearly that evil, so it would just be a misrepresentation.
I would love to see something like that on a skyscraper.
Speaking of that, why doesn't Vegas have a replica of Barad-Dûr yet?

No wonder they're upset, they should've put it on St. Basil's Cathedral!
Wow what really? Are people this out of reality?
Just move it to London, we already have the tower.

You even have the spot where the eye should seat!
No, see the Bat Building in Nashville is the one most deserving:

I didn't think life in Moscow could get much worse.

Sauron is merely concerned about persecution of Orcish minorities in Minas Tirith.
This is really sad.
And Russian Orthodox Church as corrupt as Russian goverment.
If not worse.
I find this Ironic since J. R. R. Tolkien based some of the history of LOTR on the bible.
Wait, i just saw this on TV, they reported that thing was not following as official promotion toward movie premier, but was rather qualified as art object and was planned to be installed by some "enthusiasts", and they never got paper.
Soo its not religions zealots, but bureaucrats.
For better of worse.

That makes more sense. Would the church even have any authority on what gets placed on another building?

More or less only when it aligns with what bureaucrats want. Other than that Church only has any power as far as education is concerned, due to presence of religious nutters in parliament.
City Hall, meanwhile, warned that all commercial installations — whether “evil” or not — need prior approval from the Mayor's Office.
So, basically like Tennessee.
