Swing, unlike the Melbourne Shuffle, Jerking, Grinding, or any of that, is an actual dance, to actual music. It's fucking extreme too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_music Swing, as a musical styling, is a crossover between 30's Jazz and 20's Ragtime. It's fast, upbeat, and sounds fantastic. Swing has been well known throughout the ages, but like most real music, has died during the turn of the century. Louis Prima is one of the most notable musicians in this genre. This also represents a HUGE portion of african-american contributions to modern music. In-fact, most music is derived from Jazz, Blues, Big Band, and Swing. I like to use the Stray Cats to emphasize that. Stray Cats - Rock This Town The Stray Cats were known for their swing-like rock musical style, however this song is considered classic rock to most everyone. Swing is music everyone can (or should) enjoy. It's classy, upbeat, flowing... Perfection, I believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_(dance) This is a real dance. Fuck you if you thought "jerking" or "grinding" is dancing. Swing is extreme. While swing isn't COMPLETELY dead, I want to see more of this going down. Conclusion: Good, real music, talented and lively dancing, upbeat, fun and happy. This is real dancing, this is some real music.

Shame Glenn miller disappeared so early in his career.
uhh... ok
Worthless post of the year, congratulations.
Dancing: The solution to all of life's problems. Dance more, damn it!
These dances have the power to create or destroy life, use them wisely...
I love it!

Yeah too bad I'll look like an idiot and get numerous white stereotypes if i do this
I can swing it pretty damn well.
I bet everyone here knows about swing because everyone here has played Bioshock or Fallout 3.
I learned how to Swing in gym class
Jerking eh? When did that become a dance?
I learned how to Swing in gym class
VERY JEALOUS. I need to join a band that plays this music. I play tenor and clarinet, and have played in a jazz band maybe once or twice in my life. :saddowns:
Frank Goddamn Sinatra - I've Got You Under My Skin
straight up.
Swing is catchy but it's like impossible to hum
My buddy Jeff knows Brian Setzer from the Stray Cats. His dad works at this bar called the Monte Carlo in Minneapolis which Brian frequents. He personally gave Jeff a copy of his new album, which is a lot of fun I'd have to say!
Swing kicks jerkings ass any day.
I've been meaning to sign up for some Swing lessons, but there's nowhere near where I live that teaches swing. :(

Stray Cats are the fucking bomb.
I learned how to swing dance in middle school, most women find it very attractive.
I think calling other dances not an actual dance is kinda rude. Dancing is a way to express yourself and to me, that means you can do whatever you want, how ashamed of how you express yourself is the limit. aaaand i feel pretty stupid for saying that. but yeah, great thread. some of those videos were fun to watch
Most dancing is just a evolved from a previous dance style, the way people move have similar characteristics of other dance styles. I love old fashion dancing because funnily enough, people find it is more awesome than this modern dance we have today.
