Coastguards in Japan have rescued a dog from the top of a house washed out to sea by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit the country's north-east coast three weeks ago. More than 100 Japanese and US military planes and 65 ships are scouring the coast to locate missing quake victims. More than 11,500 people are confirmed dead but nearly 16,500 remain unaccounted for.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12944317 Probably the most life affirming news story I've heard in a while.
Amazing that it looks so well off after 3 weeks. I would've thought it'd be emaciated. How did it live off salt water though?
Sweet.
It probably wasn't that long, unless he found food floating around.
Oh my god a cute dog! No other human survivors found :v:
That's amazing :3:
How long until it's dinner?
It proberbly ate it's masters
I know in my heart that's what the owners of the dog wanted.
Hahaha, cute.
Glad to see some good news come out of this disaster finally. if it doesn't find an owner i'll gladly adopt it.
Nice! These are the craziest heart warming stories to hear. Glad to hear the dog is alright.
Dogs can lick their own balls, so I imagine he survived by drinking dog ball sweat. You don't want to know what he ate.
Thats doggone insane!
Dogs can live longer without food than humans, and it probably drank its own urine.

My dog eats it's own poop sometimes.
:smugdog:
Wasn't that long, media is exagerating to get more attention, you guys should think before replying.
And I bet they ate it afterwards. You know seeing as how they're asian.
He probably ate some floating Japanese to survive.
Wasn't that long, media is exagerating to get more attention, you guys should think before replying.
Prove this. The only facts that we have are that there was a dog floating on a flotilla of debris a mile offshore. The debris has been out there since the quake 3 weeks ago, and it seems very unlikely the dog would have just swam out there. So without any evidence of him hitching a ride out there the only safe bet is that he's been out there since the quake and he's managed to find a water/food source. Maybe you should take your own advice.
I bet it was more like: Day one: Mom, dad, little Ichiro and Katsumi along with their pet dog are stranded on this debris... Day six: "Dad, have you seen mom?", the dog stares off into the distance nervously... Week 2: Katsumi asks the dog "I wonder where mom, dad, and Ichiro have gone", she hugs the dog for comfort, his strong, strangely well fed body making her feel secure. Week 3: "Captain! I see a poor, lonely creature, a dog that has survived these many weeks all by himself with no food or water on that debris. It's a miracle!"
Did he.... doggie paddle to survive?

Final moments, when the dog goes to lick the rescuer and he jerks away so suddenly like "Don't fucking lick me!" Dude, it's a fucking dog, it's trying to be nice.
could have been about to maul his face off for all he knew
How long until it's dinner?
thanks for ruining the mood
Thank heavens they rescued that dog, all relief efforts should evacuate now
