Olympic officials have secretly asked if London would be in a position to take over hosting the 2016 games from Rio de Janeiro amid major concerns with the city’s preparations. The informal enquiry looked to determine if enough of the venues used in the 2012 games could be brought back into use for the next Olympics in two years time, the Evening Standard reports.
The revelation comes as an International Olympic Committee vice president last month branded Brazil’s planning “the worst I have experienced”.
John Coates, who has closely monitored progress from Rio, told a press conference in Sydney that the city is “in many, many ways” further behind Athens was two years before the 2004 games - the current benchmark for last minute completions.
Maybe we can now use that stadium which was really, to be quite honest, a massive money hemorrhage for something that only to be used for like, a whole month...
I'm not really surprised with all the recent protest that has been going on. The government doesn't really have their heads wrapped around the Olympics; and in general Brazil the way it's been acting doesn't really deserve to host such an event.
Edit: I accidently a scentence.
yeah sure, as long as the logo isn't simpson porn then go ahead.
Also I wonder if this happens, Nintendo has to make a "Mario and Sonic at the London Olympic Games 2012 HD" port.
I might be able to go and watch some events if it is
Lets be honest... London isn't exactly a HUGE step up from Rio.
The Olympic games were awesome in London so to have it again sounds like a good idea to me.
Is there a single person who wanted the Olympics to be in Rio in the first place?
Is there a single person who wanted the Olympics to be in Rio in the first place?
Obviously someone wanted it, they were nominated for it and won the privilege to host it.

So Brazilian officials offered the biggest bribes to the IOC?

Exact opposite

I went the London around the times of the Olympics and i was honestly baffled on what they did to the city, every metro station had signs everywhere that indicate all the key points of the Olympics but also London itself and there were even people from the Olympics who would give you information about everything in London outside of the Olympic games.
I had a great time there and i for one would like it even more if they held it in London since its a 50 euro plane trip to get there :v:
Check this article, there's a lot of information on the mess that is the Olympics and the World Cup

But honestly, why do the Olympics have to be celebrated in one single city, in this day and age? You could distribute the sports through the whole host country and save millions
The decision to let Brazil host it was really odd to begin with. Brazil should focus on spending money on public services for their people instead of hosting the Olympics.
Might be cool. They're not problematic like Russia or Brazil and they didn't mess it up last time like Alaska, so go for it.

Yeah because apparently London has something worst than deadly toilets and beating people to death for rumors...
Again? How unorthodox, but at least we'd wring more worth out of that stadium.

Well, Eastenders is set there.

they have one advantage in that they're already complete with everything
Have it in Australia

Because its an elaborate way to show off a city, for example in the UK there have been 2 or 3 cities trying to get it for decades but the year London puts in a bid they get it.
No one wants to go a non-capital city to see the Olympics.
That said though, in the "London" and at least "Beijing" Olympics things were hosted all over the place as well. IIRC part of the Beijing Olympics even took part in Hong Kong which is kind of a different country.
But didn't London already have the Olympics?
I'm still sad that Chicago lost the bid :c
I believe in London's ability to create a decent Ball Kick and Helmet Touch event for all of us to enjoy, but I'm always sad they don't use some of London's richer sports traditions like Kick The Orphan Boy, Throw the Brick Through Mrs. Smith's Window, or Pee Inside Of the Actual Apartment Building.

you've clearly never been to rio or any city like it
Lets be honest... London isn't exactly a HUGE step up from Rio.
London is by far one of the nicer cities I've been to especially for its size
I can walk around there and feel safe unlike L.A or Detroit which are complete shit holes
