Nothing compares to the Rap produced in the 90s and early 2000s. In your opinion, would you say rap is dead or is it still going well?
I would say it's dieing out... Lil Wayne, Flo Rida (is he even a rapper?), etc are all awful compared to the likes of Eminem, Nas, Obie trice, Dr dre etc.
What is your opinion on this?
The mainstream stuff is going downhill I think... But I know some local groups who are amazing.
I do hope so, I do not really like modern rap.
It should die or go back to it's old quality, not inbetween.
Tupac was the king. So was Biggie Smalls.
Rap didn't die, it went back to the underground where it belongs. The general population can't appreciate/understand many of the messages hip-hop brings, this is were you get "commercialized" rappers like Lil Gayne who make the music solely for money.

Very wrong...... you just have to look harder to find excellent rap. Don't rely on the mainstream these days, it will disappoint (most of the time).

Rap is dying in a sense that the highest selling rap in this day and age are generally quite shite.. example being..... Soulja Boy, 50 Cent.. that kind of shite
Modern rap is gone to shit. It should go back to the older style. :|
Golden age has passed move on, stop whining because good hip hop exists but you clearly havent heard it
My favourite rap song & favourite video. Modern rap needs more of this:

I was just about to mention that The Ecstatic is a fantastic album and it only came out last year.
A lot of modern rap can be a bit shit but, equally, a lot of it is really good. I could imagine the only reason you think older rap is better is because only the actually decent stuff is remembered, so it's what you're listening to. The past undoubtedly had its fair share of shit music, only it got buried under the decent stuff so unless you look hard, it's hard to find.
I'm no rap genius though, it's just my guess on what's going on.
There are hundreds of great old school songs.
It's like goin to a book store. You walk in, you'll see the best seller is Twilight or some shit. Ya gotta dig around to find the jewels, they are out there.

No music stays the same for decades. There's plenty of good rappers charting, like Luda, TI, Drake, etc. You might not like the new sounds, but the fact the music is evolving means it's the opposite of 'dead.'
Also naming Dr. Dre as a great rapper is kind of funny because nearly all his rhymes are ghostwritten.
No. Kid CuDi.
No. Kid CuDi.
Is very good at what he does.

I like old school ghetto rap like Big L, Biggie, Mobb Deep.

What he does is rap badly over other people's amazing music.
I doubt it, I just bought Eminem/Jay Z tickets for two months from now, and I'm enjoying Eminem's Recovery CD.
Kid Cudi and B.o.B are really good alt. hip hop that also have some rap.
Gangster hip hop is dying thought, quickly.

Recovery is terrible. :smug:
Blueprint 3 is a good album though
Hardly dead - just changed.
Like every other genre of music. Just because it isn't the same, it doesn't mean it's dead. We as humans evolve too - the human race, but we surely aren't a dead race, right?
Cumputers has changed too. Are they dead? Nope.

my god HES RIGHT
I think it doesn't take very much to be a rapper nowadays, but the best rapper don't give a fuck about that and remain underground and good.
