So in here, you post AMAZING gargantuan creatures of the sea, giant squids, the Kraken,or maybe Cthulhu. I'll start by posting the Kraken. KRAKEN (pronounced /ˈkreɪkən/ or /ˈkrɑːkən/) are mythical sea monsters of gargantuan size, said to have dwelt off the coasts of Norway and Iceland. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the beasts have made them common ocean-dwelling monsters in various fictional works (see Kraken in popular culture). The legend may actually have originated from sightings of real giant squid that are variously estimated to grow to 13–15 m (40–50 ft) in length, including the tentacles. These creatures normally live at great depths, but have been sighted at the surface and reportedly have "attacked" ships. Kraken is the definite article form of krake, a Scandinavian word designating an unhealthy animal, or something twisted. In modern German, Krake (plural and declined singular: Kraken) means octopus, but can also refer to the legendary Kraken. i love the kraken, my favorite
It was possibly made up by Christians to stop people going so far out into sea and proving the world being round and not flat. Rate dumb if you agree with this.
God. He was made up by Christians to stop people from making scientific discoveries and further excelling the human race.
Can we post stuff from outside the sea?
I'd like to see the kraken try and fuck this up. Or even if it would try getting near this big bastard here.
It was made up by Christians to stop people going so far out into sea and proving the world being round and not flat.
Actually, it was originally from Norse mythology. No Christians involved.
I think there was a thread like this only a couple of days ago or something.
Typical FP posts, can't go one thread without some sort of bash on a religion of some sort, mainly Christianity, you guys are worse than bible thumping Christians.
He was actually just inputting something that he thought was fact. No bashing here. [editline]08:41PM[/editline] Oh damn, I think I've been trolled.
When I was a kid, I had a proper phobia of octopi because of some book illustration I saw with the kraken attacking a ship... I couldn't even read nature books about the sea... Of course, I've overcome this long ago. But I'm still fucking terrified of real ones.
I think most of us are.
Typical FP posts, can't go one thread without some sort of bash on a religion of some sort, mainly Christianity, you guys are worse than bible thumping Christians.
I'm not bashing Christianity.
Typical FP posts, can't go one thread without some sort of bash on a religion of some sort, mainly Christianity, you guys are worse than bible thumping Christians.
In a thread about mythical creatures God was bound to come up at some point.
Like I indicated, it must be a troll. [editline]08:45PM[/editline] What's Cthulhu?
I know it is mentioned above, but it wasn't the Christians who was telling stories about Kraken first. The Norse people said many stories about a huge creature with the size of an island and hundreds of tentacles. But then again, the Greeks also had their version of Kraken. The mythical creature "Kraken" may exist but not as big in the mythological stories. The colossal squid can be up to 25+ meters. They can get huge, and we don't know their exact total size. Little do we know about the deep places in the ocean and what creatures lurks there.
What's Cthulhu?
This badass motherfucker right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu
Krake eqates more or less to "poor thing".
Could we all shutup about religion? This is a mythical creature thread.
Yes, the people at the top used this to stop the free spreading of ideas against the current set of beliefs.
Because they were totally planning ahead like that, of course. You look too much into it.
Well some mythical creatures are derived from religion (Jesus).
This line right here: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is the line at which any discussion about any religion stops. Let's talk about mythical creatures.
Because they were totally planning ahead like that, of course. You look too much into it.
No, religion and mythology is used by people at the top. If any random bunch of people think "oh, let's go randomly exploring" not under the control of the Aristocracy, they can find a nice place to set up, and then they can transport more of the oppressed populace to this new land where they have more freedom. The Aristocracy would not want this to happen so they would create rumours of such sea monsters and claim that if you go too far out into the ocean, you get attacked by one of these sea monsters.
These thread derailments by trolls get really fucking annoying.
Cthulhu is a beast. Speaking of, looking forward to the new game.
Loch Ness Monster. My first and favourite. [img_thumb]http://kellebelle.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/loch-ness-monster2.jpg[/img_thumb] I like to imagine that's his wrist.
I'm not bashing Christianity.
I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions I just didn't think you were honestly that stupid.
I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions I just didn't think you were honestly that stupid.
It's called an opinion. I'm allowed to have one, it is my right as a human. It may be wrong, but instead of calling someone stupid and retarded, you can help this person by giving the facts. [editline]02:02AM[/editline]
It was possibly made up by Christians to stop people going so far out into sea and proving the world being round and not flat.
I'm just saying that it was a myth possibly created by the Christian Aristocracy to control the people.
