Gaither said he was scared, but wanted to be prepared so he grabbed a nine-millimeter hand gun.
“When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” Gaither said.

“I shot through the hamper he was carrying,” Gaither said. “It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby."
Why does this 11 year old kid sound like a hardened war veteran

Because he's a badass motherfucker
kid is gonna be bragging about this for the rest of his life

"I shot a man"
Good thing they also caught that jerkoff. What a lesson learned :V

Because his parents probably actually taught their kid about the gun they keep in their house. Too many people with kids have guns and way too often the kid discovers it and thinks it's a toy

The kid fired 12 shots, lol

Why did the kid shoot a guy that was running away? Clearly wasn't taught that such weapons are to be used to defend your life, not from taking your replaceable inanimate objects.
kid is gonna be bragging about this for the rest of his life
I wouldn't want to shoot anyone, or have shot anyone, even if its just a leg shot. Seems like a strange thing to brag about.
On the one hand good for him. On the other hand, 12 shots fired, 'cried like a baby', an 11 year old blasting a guy. He should probably at least get some counseling.

What the kid did is not illegal in Alabama; he *didn't* start shooting before the suspect started running, but the suspect was verbally abusive, gave the kid reason to be scared, and did not stop despite having a gun pulled on him; and again: it's Alabama. Private property is pretty highly regarded in that state and burgling an occupied house is basically attempting suicide.

That's not what the source says:
The intruder made it out the front door with a hamper in hand.
That’s when Gaither started firing off bullets. As the intruder was about to jump a fence in the front yard, Gaither’s 12th and final shot hit the suspect in the leg.
The intruder was leaving before he started firing. What sane person would be willing to end a life over some stuff?

Guess you shouldnt break into peoples shit and threaten them. Certian states allow individuals to protect property.
i want the blood

I never said the kid's a legal expert. Just that the kid knows about the gun he used.
But you better believe you're gonna get shot if you tell someone who's pointing a gun at you that you're gonna kill them

I can get confronting someone with a gun who is intruding on your property and telling them to GTFO or get shot if they come any closer. I don't get shooting someone who is actively leaving.

Okay, I missed one point. Still not illegal, still Alabama. The kind of person who would be willing to end a person's life over valuables? Probably the kind of person who keeps a gun in their house in case of unlawful entry, a.k.a., a person from Alabama, ergo: stupid question. Maybe you just don't get it, but there are people out there who place a higher value on "stuff" than you do, and have a lower opinion of idiot thieves.

I have a pretty low opinion of thieves, they are scum. In the end this guy got what he deserved since he didn't die. However I don't believe he deserved to die, which is more down to luck than anything.

LOL that's embarassing, I missed that right at the beginning

That's between you and Alabama law. I'm hardly of the opinion that burglars deserve to die, but the guy is an idiot and is lucky to still be an idiot, and I'm not going to crucify the kid for doing what his parents have probably told him is the right thing to do and what the law and his emotions justified in the heat of the moment.
Officially a "real nigga" now.

sanity is a tricky subject because it is not set in stone, rather determined by social and cultural norms. in alabama, it is more acceptable to defend your property with lethal force. should this change? possibly, but labelling people who may very well be perfectly normal in all aspects other than that as insane, especially as someone who most likely has no psychological background, will change nobody's opinion and could just entrench people in their

the robber broke into his house multiple times and then threatened to murder the kid
the robber broke into his house multiple times and then threatened to murder the kid
And then left without actually doing anything to the kid or even approaching him.
And then left without actually doing anything to the kid or even approaching him.
and maybe come back with a gun? I mean he's broken into their house MULTIPLE times after all
and maybe come back with a gun? I mean he's broken into their house MULTIPLE times after all
Oh well then, if he might of come back with a gun then riddle him with bullets. Infact whenever someone says anything along the line of "I'll kill you" it's better to take justice into your own hands right then and there and kill them, just in case.
