Science Confirms: The Pull-Out Method Is Not Great For Avoiding Pregnancy
Today in scientific studies that confirm the obvious, we have a paper from the Duke University Medical Center that led to this stellar Reuters headline: "'Pull-out method' tied to unintended pregnancies." Well, um, yeah.
Most current guides on contraception cite this Guttmacher study for its results on the pull-out method, also called coitus interruptus. That study was performed back in 2009, and found that with perfect use, the pull-out method had a failure rate of about four times out of 100. Not bad, really! But, of course, the whole problem with the pull-out method is that it's sort of hard to perform it perfectly every single time. By averaging that failure rate with the rate of pregnancy when it was used incorrectly all the time, the researchers landed on a failure rate of about 18 percent as a best guess for average use of the method. That's only slightly worse than the average failure rate of condoms (17 percent), though it's pretty easy to argue that condoms are easier to use than the pull-out method.
The new study, performed by, swear to god, Dr. Annie Dude, found that 31 percent of women surveyed had used the pull-out method in the past two years. Twenty-one percent of those women reported an unintended pregnancy--significantly more than the unintended pregnancy rate of women who used non-pull-out-method forms of birth control (13 percent).
no shit?
Oh fuck
So, unprotected sex results in pregnancy? Who fucking knew? Who's funding shit research like this?
oh no
Yeah, Sex Ed told me that Abstinence is the only true way to prevent pregnancy. Even Condoms fail 99% of the time! :downs:
Seriously though, I thought this was already a well known concept?

Condom companies

Science also concludes that pulling out is only slightly worse than a condom
am I the only one that finds a 17% failure rate for condoms alarming?
I never knew Coitus interruptus was the scientific name. Sounds like a Harry Potter spell or some shit
the pull-out method, also called coitus interruptus.
Ah, I was looking for a new band name.
i just dont have sex
problem solved
Science also concludes that pulling out is only slightly worse than a condom
Is that trying to tell me that it's only 1% worse than using a condom?
I never knew Coitus interruptus was the scientific name. Sounds like a Harry Potter spell or some shit
Reading that name made me go over the fence and make this thread :v:
Lots of scientists out there already proven that.
i am a pulling out master
am I the only one that finds a 17% failure rate for condoms alarming?
i thought it was like 2%
i thought it was like 2%
yeah, with a failure rate that high, what is even the point of buying them if pulling out is only 1% less effective
brb getting an abortion
Sodomy, the only 100% way to not get pregnant.
i just dont have sex

Facepunch is a shining example of STD prevention.
am I the only one that finds a 17% failure rate for condoms alarming?
And this is why Google(?) has a contest for a build-a-better condom type thing.
(Un)Fortunately for me, I haven't been so lucky yet
am I the only one that finds a 17% failure rate for condoms alarming?
I've heard that it is mainly because of people using condoms incorrectly.
I have so many women coming after me, but I just say no because I don't wanna get anyone pregnant.
h-hehe...
am I the only one that finds a 17% failure rate for condoms alarming?
I believe with PROPER use condom failure rate is only something like 2%. However if you use it improperly (it's inside-out, not the right size etc.) it's a much higher chance of failure.
I've heard that it is mainly because of people using condoms incorrectly.
How does one even manage to use it incorrectly? It's a fairly simple operation.
My daughter, who will be here in about three weeks, taught me this lesson a couple months ago

its pretty obvious if you have a condom on inside out isn't it
not that I've ever put it on inside out cause I'm not a dumbass but I can see how somebody who's drunk could make that mistake I guess

What if she see's this post when shes older and learns she was a mistake
