Figured I should post this. I live just one town over from Gisbourne in Sunbury, smoke has been flooding in all day over the hill. There's nowhere to run to now though, all the exits have been blocked off. Night's coming though, so I hope that will help.
EDIT: It's calmed down a bit where I am with that Gisbourne fire under control, but there's still a lot more to be done. And that's not even including the Gippsland area fires. Still, it's apparently safe enough for me to stay at home tonight.
Okay that's pretty scary. Good luck.
Hope you're safe over in sunbury mate, my aunt lives there too.
Whoa I used to live in Sunbury as a kid.
Keep safe.

I didn't realise the fires were still this bad.
Could hear sirens all day passing us. I've never known the fires to get as close as they did to where I am.
fuark everybody blazing
Not this shit again
Huge fires north of me, but they're travelling north rather than south, so I should be alright.
I'll be so goddamn happy when summer ends though.
[editline]9th February 2014[/editline]
All I can hear is helicopters flying over my place towards the fires. Shit's crazy.
One part of the world freezes while we burn
Come to Sunny Australia, where it's so hot that everything burns at random during the summer months!
feeble joke aside, I wouldn't want to be the poor bastard having to deal with those.
bloody weather fuck off you cunt
Thank god it didn't hit too deep around craigeburn otherwise I would've been fucked too

they evacuated a few of the shops up near craigieburn
my pager wouldn't shut the fuck up
You know shits going bad when you get a text message from the CFA on your phone saying 'EVACUATE NOW'
Also if you follow them (CFA) on FB you'll see that they push out warnings and messages on there too
At least no deaths so far so hopefully the toll remains at 0, optimistic as fuck about that tho
Jesus, good luck.
It takes balls to live on a continent that's actively trying to kill you every step of the way.
oh no no no you got it all wrong.
other than the bushfires the only thing killing me is my soda addiction
Been fighting fires on and off all summer so far in Victoria.

(that entire treeline is burnt)
Trust me, when faced with a wall of fire 12m high, the 42°C weather is the last thing on your mind.
I feel like it would be natural if my bed spontaneously caught on fire
Every fucking summer Aus just burns down. At least it keeps the spiders at bay..

It's usually because of the spiders that this happens.
Victoria needs to change that message on their car number plates from 'Victoria the Sunshine State' to 'Victoria the Bushfire State'
Victoria the too much sunshine state, more like it

Queensland has that motto though?

They also have "The Smart State" but cannot figure out how daylight savings works.
Living in the bush with flammable trees in a place that reaches 40c in summer, what could go wrong
man the town i was in was on fire at one point but i've been sleeping all day so i've really missed out on shit damn
They also have "The Smart State" but cannot figure out how daylight savings works.
We got that because every school in this state uses this:
"One student in a Queensland school gets straight A's at the end of Grade 12
Best School in Queensland, enroll now!"
Goddamnit not this again. We've got enough problems with the drought up north and all, don't need more killer fires. Any word on how it started?

I heard something about police questioning known arsonists.
