I was walking down the streets in the middle of night, and I see a little animal on the side of the concrete path, as I come closer to the animal I discover that it's a cat, I assumed that it had an owner because the house the cat was infront of had left the gate open which leads to the backyard.
I went to go pat the little cute thing when suddenly a car in the distance starts beeping it's horn, the cat got scared and just ran in the middle of the road. The car was going over the speed limit and was just about a couple of metres away from the cat and then the cat just stayed in the same spot, I jumped infront of the cat trying prevent the car from hitting it. The man in the car floors the brake and the car hit me but luckily I only got bruises. I get up and see the man screaming at me and saying that I was trying to commit suicide, I tell him that I was just trying to prevent the cat from being run over, then, a woman and a man steps out of a house, who were the owners of the cat. I got up and told them what had happened. They were relieved that I was okay and that the cat was, they offered me $1000 for doing such a life-threatning thing but I refused to take the money. I soon found out that the cat's name was "AJ" which is the same name as mine.
EDIT 2:
To all the people who think I'm stupid for saving the cat and turning down the money,
I turned down the money because I thought it was just selfish to take hard-earned cash from an elderly couple. The cat was really close to them and they've had him for a couple of years.
I really couldn't watch the cat get crushed, I had to risk my life to save it. I do not regret anything.

My cat died today. She was 20 years old, we had to put her down as she was epileptic and had a fit every hour or so.
Edit: How is that funny :saddowns:
You bastard, That cat was putting its self out of its own misery!!
Why didn't you take the money?
You're a true gentleman for not taking the money. :3:
Incredibly thoughtful of you.
Have a heart.
Fun fact: Aj means ouch in Sweden
They probably ate the cat anyway
(it was trying to escape)

Fact fits with the story.
It's a sign!
Its not polite nice and friendly, its incredibly stupid
im sorry but thinking realistically you risked your life for a cat.... thats a stupid thing to do
maybe i am being an arse but i just cant see any sense in the op's actions

I really wasn't thinking when I did it. Also, I'm very passionate when it comes to helping animals.

Maybe he values life in general and couldn't bear to witness an innocent creature getting ran over by a car. It's morally right you know.
Good work, OP. I don't think I could have taken the money either.
It's amazing what humans can do when they/someone else is in danger or is threatened. It wasn't even moral values or affection or passion when you did it. If you analyze the situation, yes you feel passionately for the animal-- but your actions were pure human instinct. The human body is amazing.
Well done OP.
I'm not going to give you props for "almost dying" for a cat, jumping in front of a speeding car for a cat is just retarded.
The owners didn't belong to an Oriental restaurant by any chance, did they?
If I was in your situation I would have done the same.
It would be reckless and a bit stupid, but I'm not going to stand and watch as a cat get crushed by a car.
I like cats.
Good job, OP.
lol liar
They wouldn't offer you 1000 dollars
Go ahead and give into naivity, believe it if you wish.
Damn, it had to be a expensive cat.
Why did you refuse 1000 dollars, if you want to seem like a smug bastard that don't need money, just take half the money.
I almost died saving my own cat once, but it was my own fault.
She was an indoor cat, so me and mate decided to get really stoned one time and we left the backdoor open, my cat sneaked out and ended up on the very top of a tree on a small branch as the wind was shaking rapidly, she kept meowing and stuff.
It was on my neighbours yard so I went over and the guy that lived there helped me get her, I had to put a ladder on a chair, which was on a very unstable table, I almost fell 4 times because of the wind and I was stoned.
I got her down but then when I went back round my place I had to have another 4 joints because I lost my buzz.

Saving a life isn't illogical. Even if it's a cat.
And anyway, cats are cute :3:
If you had actually been offered $1,000 you wouldn't have refused it, lying sack of shit trying to manipulate our emotions for some reason.
Did you get any pussy?
Brave man. I would have accepted the money though.
OP deserves a kindness medal.
I did get offered $1000 from the elderly couple, I really didn't want to take the money because I felt that they needed it more than I do, yes, I would've taken the money but I didn't want to look like a greedy bastard.
no you didn't
