• Anime that isn't asinine - please

So I'm generally trying to build up a catalog of Anime movies or series that aren't completely asinine, this is what I've found so far to give you an idea: Ninja Scroll Jin-Roh: Wolves in human armor Blood the last vampire (the feature, not the asinine tv series that came after kawwwaiii ~ eugh excuse me i have to puke a little) Berserk (it's pushing the limit at some points, but generally very good) Perfect Blue Those are the only I can think of at the moment at any rate. I've been told I should seek out Patlabor. Can you help or have I found all the gems?
Death Note (series) I found pretty good. At least the first half until [sp]L dies[/sp], after that's it goes downhill and the ending is a disappointment.
It depends... All animes have some foolery moments. And the one anime I've actually like happens to be Chobits, which has a few moments of it, but it's serious for the bigger part.
Cowboy Bebop
Asinine in content or execution? The Ghost in the Shell movie and series are thoughtful, almost to the point where it wallows in it (there is a whole 20 minute episode of people in a virtual chatroom).
Death Note isn't worth the cells it's drawn on after episode 24. Look at more Satoshi Kon shit, the badass mofo who made Perfect Blue. Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent, those are good place to start. I like him because he constantly makes people who are obsessed with anime looks like creepy stalking murderers. You want a well developed story, go watch Monster. It's long, but it's a brilliant piece of writing. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] And if I want Brody proportions I know where to look. Afro Samurai's really good.
Asinine? I had to search the word because I've never heard it before :v: But I get your idea: you want cool anime that is not the typical fanservice/cocktease/moe-moe-kawaii shit, right? Well, there's a lot of gems out there: You may like Samurai Champloo. Same guy that directed Cowboy Bebop. About movies, check out Hayao Miyazaki's films. Hayao himself is a big feminist and hates anything related with fanservice and such, so you may like it. Also, you may also want to check out the OP of this thread and ask the people there for some reccomendation
Mushishi can be a good watch to just sit down and relax (if you can be bothered to read subtitles though)
also check out Akira it was written by a man on copious amounts of cocaine but it looks fucking awesome

I can't seem to describe it in a smarmy sentence, so I hope you get what I mean. Ruruni Kenshin would be one of those series that everybody loves but makes me either cringe in embarrassment form the corniness or puke in disgust at how terrible it is. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] oh to add to the list, these ones make it in by exception of just how fucking cool they are: Lupin the third: The castle of Cagliostro Space Adventure Cobra (I was disappointed in my dvd copy, it seems to be a version where they changed the dialogue, voice actors and soundtrack. I want my old VHS copy back :( )
Akira Vampire Hunter D Cowboy Bebop Ghost In The Shell I've only seen bits of GITS and Cowboy Bebop but both looked great. I assume Vampire Hunter D isn't in the asinine category, I hate anime that goes for all that bullshit especially ones with socially awkward characters that aren't needed.
Ah yes. I saw Vampire Hunter D, very good.
Anything by Satoshi Kon. I only saw one episode, but Mushishi was very interesting. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It has lots of huge action sequences but they're well animated, thought out and don't contradict the story. It also has some cuteness and silliness, which are contrasted by some genuinely dark moments. You may not like it, but it's quite well regarded on this forum. I'd also say the first episode isn't a great first impression because it throws tons of action at you with no explanation for any of it. Gurren Lagann is a hilarious parody of the kind of anime you hate. Might be worth checking out if you look at it from that perspective.

- Hellsing - barely any asinine moments - Bleach, save the filler arcs - some asinine moments - Trigun - barely/none any asinine moments - Cowboy Bebop - barely/none any asinine moments - Claymore - barely/none any asinine moments - The Tower of Druaga - few any asinine moments - FLCL - few any asinine moments - High School of the Dead - few any asinine moments
Black Lagoon.
Hellsing Ultimate is good, stay away from the hellsing tv series though.
This is obligatory. also Gunslinger Girl is really good imo and OP, you'd get better if you went into fast anime and asked
I well recommend watching Desert Punk. Short and sweet, but it's worth the watch.
also check out Akira it was written by a man on copious amounts of cocaine but it looks fucking awesome
Indeed
Avatar: The Last Airbender. :downs:
Ghost in the Shell is impossible to understand, and I find that asinine in itself. The only one I'd recommend would be NGE, with the exception of the last few episodes, which are simply ridiculous. And stupid.
Neon Genesis Evangelion It's a midfuck but it's awesome.
Shiki pretty good, if you can ignore that everyone there have hairstyles that would make Lady Gaga look normal. I would recommend you skip them and go straight to EOE at that point assuming you actually are going to watch NGE op :v:
By asinine.....you mean... what does asinine means anyway? PS:English is not my first language PSS: I recommend Hellsing Ultimate
You should definitely check out Baccano!, It's one of my most recent favorite Animes.
