MPHJ claimed to have patents that cover any networked "scan-to-email" function.

We now know that MPHJ has also become the first patent troll targeted by the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC's interest in MPHJ was revealed in an audacious "preemptive strike" lawsuit that MPHJ actually filed against the FTC on Monday. The suit, which names the four sitting FTC commissioners personally, says that the agency has overstepped its bounds and trampled on MPHJ's constitutional rights.
TL;DR: The FTC announces it is going to clamp down on patent trolls, MPHJ a notorious one that was mentioned quite a bit got an ante litem notice that told them that they should just agree to a judgement or they'd be sued, they shit themselves and decide to do a preemptive strike claiming the FTC is violating their rights.
These people are disgusting.
Good luck beating an entity that has control of the law and unlimited resources.
clamping down on patent trolls is a patented idea i'll sue yew
These people are disgusting.
kinda what happens when people can patent any esoteric idea without a working process and then collect money from people who did the work. if i'm not mistaken amazon patented the one click checkout before they knew how to do it and sued others.
Good luck beating an entity that has control of the law and unlimited resources.
Basically, a patent troll.
Basically, a patent troll.
No.

Really theres like 4 things you dont fuck with in the government FCC FTC SEC Federal Reserve
Really theres like 4 things you dont fuck with in the government FCC FTC SEC Federal Reserve
Screwing around with ANY sectors of government entity will end just as bad to be honest.
This is definitely a "David and Goliath" moment. Except David is still armed with his sling-shot, Goliath is wearing body armour and sportin' some size 100 cleats. *stomp*
Really theres like 4 things you dont fuck with in the government FCC FTC SEC Federal Reserve
I'm told the Maine Turnpike Authority is also pretty intense. That $1.00 in quarters? Admission price to the State's shit list.
Really theres like 4 things you dont fuck with in the government FCC FTC SEC Federal Reserve
Don't forget the IRS. Actually, if there are 3 letters you should be afraid, more and you should be fine.
The FTC shouldn't be punishing groups that take advantage of the clearly broken patent system, it will only lead to patent troll groups trying to keep a lower profile. They should be addressing patent law instead. If what MPHJ is doing is legal then I think they definitely have a leg to stand on in court.
Don't forget the IRS. Actually, if there are 3 letters you should be afraid, more and you should be fine.
Eh.. I'm talking about agencies that have control to change the law without legislature through regulations.. I forgot the EPA (regulatory agencies)

You shouldn't be able to patent arbitrary shapes like "it's a skwayer wiff roundeded kornerrrz :)))", and should at the very least have a working proof-of-concept before you can actually get a patent.
I agree. You shouldn't be able to patent arbitrary shapes like "it's a skwayer wiff roundeded kornerrrz :)))", and should at the very least have a working proof-of-concept before you can actually get a patent.
Design patents only need a design, not a "working proof of concept".
Design patents only need a design, not a "working proof of concept".
Wouldn't the design be the working proof of concept then?
technically yes, because loads of things can have rounded corners (i'm looking at you Apple, Glock) so what should be implemented for a design patent is a model that accurately conveys the design in question
Really theres like 4 things you dont fuck with in the government FCC FTC SEC Federal Reserve
Any part really. The EPA could kick you out of your house to protect some obscure species of mosquito that might exist.
Any part really. The EPA could kick you out of your house to protect some obscure species of mosquito that might exist.
Hell, they could introduce it to your house right in front of you, and THEN kick you out.
Hell, they could introduce it to your house right in front of you, and THEN kick you out.
Or worse, force you to stay as it turns out you're its only food source
Or worse, force you to stay as it turns out you're its only food source
"Sorry sir, but once they've nested in your eye sockets we can't remove them, as they're a protected species."
Ahahahaha, no. The poked the fucking Wasps' nest.
It's like they came across two piles of treasure. One of which had a dragon sleeping atop it. Instead of taking what treasure they could from the smaller pile, they decided to run up and hit the dragon with a stick.
