Authorities in Greece are renewing their efforts to neutralise aggressive neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn, which is under investigation for murder and other crimes, observers say.
Over the weekend, three more Golden Dawn lawmakers were placed in pre-trial custody, joining party leader Nikos Michaloliakos and two more senior members behind bars.
A third of Golden Dawn's 18 lawmakers are now in prison and half have been indicted on charges of belonging to, or running, a criminal organisation since the investigation began last year.
Armed with testimony from former party members, magistrates are trying to prove that Golden Dawn orchestrated attacks on migrants and political opponents, culminating in the deaths of a Pakistani immigrant and a Greek anti-fascist musician last year.
I'm not 100 percent sure but isn't that the party leader Nikos?? Not sure if this is a joke or not Nikos.
It's a joke but it looks like the people who rated the post didn't recognize him.

Oh I see thats the joke
Am I weird if I wanted the Golden Dawn to get into power just to see what happens to Greece?
Am I weird if I wanted the Golden Dawn to get into power just to see what happens to Greece?
Nobody wants a near repeat of the 30's in Germany
Am I weird if I wanted the Golden Dawn to get into power just to see what happens to Greece?
They want to put landmines along the Turkish border.
Am I weird if I wanted the Golden Dawn to get into power just to see what happens to Greece?
They will get kicked out of NATO, the EU, and they might try to invade Macedonia and Cyprus (and fail at it).
I don't think they should be banned. As long as they aren't committing crimes but that goes without saying.
Good to see Nazi thugs are being treated as they should be
They should probably also go after the Far-Left parties as well. They have had their fair share of beating people and starting riots.
I don't think they should be banned. As long as they aren't committing crimes but that goes without saying.
They are though, so it's like. You gotta.
Jesus, Golden Dawn, even the Nazi party had actual power before going completely batshit insane with the killing
So you're fine with the government doing this simply because you disagree with them?
I don't think they should be banned. As long as they aren't committing crimes but that goes without saying.
But that have committed crimes lol.
But that have committed crimes lol.
That's my point. Of course deal with criminal activity accordingly but don't ban a political party cause you don't like it. (Like some Greeks and others are pushing for)
But that have committed crimes lol.
Every political party has committed some crime or another.
That's my point. Of course deal with criminal activity accordingly but don't ban a political party cause you don't like it. (Like some Greeks and others are pushing for)
The party itself is inherently responsible for many of the crimes. Banning it or arresting all of the criminals in it would lead to the same result.

Wait isn't that the leader of Golden Dawn, but without his glasses?
Every political party has committed some crime or another.
Nazis make it a policy to commit crimes, unlike the vast majority of others
I'm not fond of fascist parties at all but I can't help but feel this is an excuse to eliminate a rising party seen as opposition.
Polticans do this shit all the time in the U.S to 3rd party's on the rise.
Every political party has committed some crime or another.
yeah maybe, but

What? Since when have the US jailed political opponents?
So you're fine with the government doing this simply because you disagree with them?
Or
You know
Because the Greek neo-nazis being arrested actually committed or are accused of committing various crimes

Reading is very hard when you're trying to spin this as some sort of liberal blindness to free speech, though, so I understand
Every political party has committed some crime or another.
Oh in that case who cares, if other political parties have committed crimes then whatever let them lynch all the Muslims they want
there's an extremely large difference between taking down a party because of arbitrary disagreements in policy and taking down a party that is literally full of fascists accused of murdering people.

Oh yeah like that last time Ralph Nader was put in jail right? Jeez.

You're right let's let the Golden Dawn do what it wants (aka killing people) because we don't want the government there to look like they are overreaching with political power!

McCarthyism??? The Red Scare? Do these names ring a bell?
Oh yeah like that last time a suspected communist was put in jail right? Jeez.
Yeah, that happened.
jailing nazis (good) supersedes jailing political opponents (bad) so when you run the numbers this one comes up good
