MSNBC Airs Un-Edited Sandy Hook Father's Testimony After Critics Complain Hollywood Reporter 7:42 PM PST 1/30/2013
NBC News has re-aired a video its critics say was selectively edited after finding itself embroiled in another controversy about edited video. It's not the first time a controversy over editing has plagued the cable talker. NBC aired doctored versions of a 911 call in the Trayvon Martin case, which led to an apology and several people losing their jobs in April. On Monday, MSNBC aired a video that seemed to show a grief-stricken man being heckled by pro-gun lobbyists while talking about his recently murdered son. The segment aired Monday on Martin Bashir, when the show's eponymous host played video of Neil Heslin, a father who lost his 6-year-old son at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The incident has been the subject of talk radio and other conservative media, which has used it to boost assertions that NBC, MSNBC and much of the mainstream media is biased in favor of liberalism. Indeed, several journalists took MSNBC’s reporting at face value and echoed it, including reporters at The Huffington Post, the Daily Beast, Slate, Media Matters for America and many others collected at the right-wing site, Twitchy. “The full, unedited video proves the media is lying. This is not heckling, this is someone respectfully asking a question and receiving a respectful answer,” wrote John Nolte at Breitbart.com. National radio host Cam Edwards of NRA News spent nearly 20 minutes ripping MSNBC for “as egregious an edit as you can possibly get.” The conservative Media Research Center wrote that “MSNBC’s disgusting lack of journalistic standards have hit a new low.” It wasn't only conservative media that disagreed with MSNBC's interpretation. CNN's Anderson Cooper, for example, originally tweeted that Heslin was "shouted down," but after seeing the full video, he tweeted: "#SandyHook parent wasn't 'shouted down' as I said in previous tweet. He asked for response and audiences members gave it and were admonished." The network's critics also have been likening the incident to the one last spring where NBC edited a 911 tape to make it appear that George Zimmerman invoked Trayvon Martin’s skin color when he killed him, taking out the portion where the 911 operator specifically asks Zimmerman to describe Martin’s race. That episode led to at least three people being fired.
Full story: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/msnbc-airs-edited-sandy-hook-416977 Full Article includes videos. Alt Sources: http://www.usnews.com/news/entertainment/articles/2013/01/30/msnbc-criticized-for-editing-of-gun-hearing-video
On Monday, MSNBC's Martin Bashir reported on hearing testimony given that day by Neil Heslin, whose 6-year-old son, Jesse, was killed last month in the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn. In the hushed hearing room, Heslin said, "I ask if there's anybody in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question: why anybody in this room needs to have ... one of these assault-type weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips?" Heslin paused for five seconds and looked around him. No one else spoke. "Not one person can answer that question," he said. Then, someone in the audience shouted: "The Second Amendment shall not be infringed." After the audience was admonished by a legislator not to speak, Heslin said, "Anyway, we're all entitled to our own opinion, and I respect their opinions and thoughts, but I wish they'd respect mine and give it a little bit of thought." Video aired by Bashir Monday omitted the challenge, depicting Heslin saying: "Why anybody in this room needs to have ... one of these assault-type weapons or military weapons." At that point, without any pause, the audience member's interjection about the Second Amendment was heard. Heslin's comment about respecting opinions was omitted. The camera then focused on Bashir, who said, "a father's grief interrupted by the cries of a heckler." The passage as aired by MSNBC received criticism for being deceptive. "This is not how a legitimate, professional news organization operates," said Brent Bozell, founder of the Media Research Center, a conservative media watchdog. "MSNBC's relentless anti-gun advocacy is bad enough, but this is downright dishonest."
everyone knows msnbc is liberal, what's your point i also love how the article quotes a majority of conservatives i dont really get why this is that relevant

In other shocking news, Fox News has a strong conservative bias gasp
I've learned not to give a shit. There's no proof that every news source isn't biased as shit or being paid off, so I just ignore the news at this point.
NBC is also biased? I thought this was common knowledge.
You guys don't get it. the point is not the Bias, The point is that they Lied to their viewers again! They edited a video to produce a false story that even CNN and CBS can't back up as true. They did this before with the trayvon martin 911 call to make it look like there was racism when there wasn't (https://www.google.com/search?q=msnbc+caught+lying&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Hi8&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&biw=1280&bih=863&sclient=psy-ab&q=msnbc+trayvon+martin+edit&oq=msnbc+tray&gs_l=serp.1.2.0l4.18805.27826.0.31729.7.6.1.0.0.0.1233.3903.0j1j1j5-1j2j1.6.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.7sy0QRTEmF0&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41642243,d.aWc&fp=bd716464ca59ecaf), They edited a vidoe of Mitt Romney to try to make him look as dumb as Bush (https://www.google.com/search?q=msnbc+caught+lying&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=x2n&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&sclient=psy-ab&q=msnbc+romney+video+edit&oq=msnbc+roedit&gs_l=serp.1.0.0i8l2.78022.78402.2.80306.2.2.0.0.0.0.443.753.3-1j1.2.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.Q8f3L7z6XJg&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41642243,d.aWc&fp=bd716464ca59ecaf&biw=1280&bih=863), and now they're caught lying again. This hurts their creditability more so than any bias does as even if you are a regular MSNBC viewer, you deserve the truth, not some faked up story.
Where are your threads about CNN doing this same thing (Over different subjects), and other things, multiple times? oh

Russia Today and Al Jazeera do it too, whats your point? False stories are pretty common.
Russia Today and Al Jazeera do it too, whats your point? False stories are pretty common.
They don't edit clips to this extreme to piss off the other side.
Where are your threads about CNN doing this same thing, and other things, multiple times? oh
This isn't about CNN. This is about a News station, MSNBC, that has been caught lying for the 3rd time, using the same method. Surely, you'd trust the NFL to tell you the truth about the game you watched, right? So why would you give MSNBC a free pass 3 times?
This is why I just read the news from multiple sources, I haven't watched the news on TV in forever

MSNBC does this once and suddenly it's huge news. Fox does things like this 24/7 with everything selectively edited and structured to support their views, and nobody really says anything anymore. At least MSNBC's polls add up.
They don't edit clips to this extreme to piss off the other side.
Actually, RT has straight fabricated stories in the past, and they love to post conspiracy theory bullshit from the likes of Alex Jones and report it as absolute fact. Al Jazeera however is normally really good about not doing this, hence why it is actually quite respected internationally.

Sometimes, we Canadians watch American news because it is entertaining and, occasionally, hilarious. The retarded shit that spews forth from so called "journalists" and "reporters" is amazing. I hope American media clean up their act soon, for the good of all you Yanks.

The news media is a gigantic part why our political races have more in common with sports than with the politics of any other first world country
Fox lies to their viewers on a daily basis. What is your point?
MSNBC is made to retract their lies, thus exposing them. If Liberals can't Trust MSNBC, why should they continue watching?
MSNBC is made to retract their lies, thus exposing them. If Liberals can't Trust MSNBC, why should they continue watching?
Nothing.
People blindly believing major news companies in general is a stupid idea. By the time a major company picks it up, it's bounced off so many sources that it might as well be fantasy. The 'live' reports can be staged or scripted to completely alter or dramatize a point. Unless NBC or one of these major news companies is about to get brutally sued or have something major happen; I don't think anyone really cares or is surprised when they outright lie. A bit of a sad notion, at that.
Why do you choose to ignore my question? lol
Do you have any news sources that call out CNN for editing a video to present a false narrative? Otherwise I still don't see how it's relevant.
-snip what am i doing-
MSNBC is made to retract their lies, thus exposing them. If Liberals can't Trust MSNBC, why should they continue watching?
But fox news isnt supposed to? If you cant get your head out of your ass then you should stop giving sources to fox news.
