Oklahoma Republican legislator Sally Kern joined the American Family Association’s Tim Wildmon on American Family Radio yesterday to discuss her new book, The Stoning of Sally Kern. Kern, who previously argued that homosexuality is a greater threat to the US than terrorism and should be criminalized, and Wildmon agreed that the real “hateful” people are those who do not believe that gays and lesbians can change their sexual orientation and become straight: (audio in source)
Wildmon: Now Sally as you just said, nobody hates the individual homosexual. We want to see them come to repentance and know the Lord and have their lives changed, that’s what we want to see. So we have compassion for people like that Kern: To me what is hateful is when those people who say ‘you’re born this way, there’s no hope in change, you’re stuck in this, deal with it,’ that is hate. There’s no hope in that
Kern ended the interview with a rallying cry for “God’s people to stand up” to gay rights advocates, who she called the “tip of the spear” of the movement “trying to tear down the moral fiber of America”: (audio in source)
Kern: We’re losing our freedom of conscience. And if the homosexuals get what they want, and as you said it’s not just homosexuality, its immorality or adultery, all of that, but in my opinion the homosexual movement is the tip of the spear. They’re the ones who right now are beating down the door, have their foot in the door, trying to tear down the moral fiber of America. We have to stand up to that. The reason it’s the tip of the spear you don’t see ‘Adulterers Victory Fund’ out there trying to promote adultery. God’s people got to stand up to this.

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/kern-real-hatred-comes-gay-rights-advocates
boy am I glad to live in oklahoma
Irony [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] Also I have a question, why are a lot of the hardcore and vocal homophobes these days both republicans and female?
There's not a lot of hardcore democratic homophobes, and republican women have been getting a lot more press attention since Sarah Palin showed up.
Ugh I hate how they argue about morals. Apparently it's also morally acceptable that groups like you who preach hate and support stern intolerance toward gays, have driven countless people, many of them teenagers, to suicide.
I hope she drops dead. There, I said it. Nothing else, she's a waste of space on this planet along with everyone who agrees with her.
Hate. ...Not hate? What?
I dont understand those people. Look at Canada, it is legal for homosexuals to marry eachother. All over the country. And we as a country are doing great, our moral fiber has not been destroyed, if anything our moral fiber is greater (maybe worded wrong) Tolerance is common sense here, and people don't spew hate all over the place. As well we don't have retarded republicans to screw things up, thanks to our education.
Hell, even our Conservatives are leaving gay marriage alone now up here.

it sickens me that we're living in fucking 2011 and people are still THIS intolerant of other people seriously whenever we learn to get the fuck over ourselves and actually be god damn human beings I will be one happy motherfucker
Hell, even our Conservatives are leaving gay marriage alone now up here.
Harper's personal views on the subject and the conservative majority makes me nervous that we'll end up being the first country in the world to make gay marriage illegal after having it legal
Guys. What if the gays band together and create the rainbow army and overthrow the government?
Seriously? Boy, I'm glad conservatives aren't like this here.
I'll never understand the hatred of gay people. So far I've just racked it up to ignorance and stereotyping.
I'll never understand the hatred of gay people. So far I've just racked it up to ignorance and stereotyping.
The combination of a few vocal idiots, with an extremely shitty but widely trusted news source seems to result in a lot of people believing stupid things Edit: Plus the devoutly religious tend to dislike this sort of thing because they read it was bad in a book
I'll never understand the hatred of gay people. So far I've just racked it up to ignorance and stereotyping.
Misguided idea that it's a choice, combined with a feeling that this "choice" degrades the common family model, combined with religion

See, in the U.S. there really aren't too many people as stupid as this, it's just that a lot of the media shows these stories of people acting stupid rather than showing stories of how people act in a good way. Pessimistic reporting tends to make more money for some reason, so they go along with that. The unfortunate thing about this is that foreigners see all of these news stories and assume that all Americans are idiots without even having seen one. It really doesn't accurately reflect how things actually are.
