China's new Z-10 attack helicopter actually designed by Russians.
The Changhe Aircraft WZ-10 attack helicopter is based on a Russian design commissioned by the Chinese, Kamov's chief design engineer says.
In 1995, Kamov developed a preliminary design in the 6t weight class under a contract with the Chinese government, says Sergey Mikheev, Kamov's chief design engineer, speaking at the Heli-Expo trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Due to understandable reasons, this information was kept secret," he says.
The Project 941 design was not based on any Soviet-era attack helicopter project and was strictly designed for China's unique requirements, Mikheev says. "They gave us the desired weight, we discussed preliminary performance parameters, then we signed a contract and we fulfilled the contract," he says.
After Kamov completed the design, the Russian design bureau verified the design via testing. Kamov then delivered the design to China and the Project 941 concept was accepted by that country's government for further development, he says. Kamov did not participate in any further developmental work on the WZ-10, he insists.
The South Africans helped China with the Z-10. So did loads of other western companies.

Not soviet, it was developed in 1995.

125mm guns were soviet technology, and they're used on recent chinese tanks.

was talking about military equipment in general.
that's a nice looking helicopter
Looks like a bit of a toy to me.
Too many rounded edges.
God damn chinese ripoffs!
And their main multi role plane is designed by Israel.
They outsource their development since all they can design are copies.
[editline]7th March 2013[/editline]
And their main scout / light utility plane is a copy of a Eurocopter design.

Right, it's not like every single 1st world country doesn't "copy" from each other. Is it a bad thing now that China does it?

No its actually very smart that China copies other nation's military tech, the US and USSR both used to do the same.
The only problem is that the copies are usually not as good as the original.

There's a difference between using elements of one design and putting it in a different place, and making exact replicas and calling it a day.
there is no copyright in military.

There actually kind of is. A famous example is how during World War 1, while The USA was fighting the Germans and supplying the Triple E, the US had to pay German companies such as Mauser licenses for using their bolt action design.

K-13 AAM is the best example of this
