A series of cryptic puzzles set by spy agency GCHQ on its Christmas card has yet to be cracked two days before the deadline.
About 30,000 people have reached the final stage of the challenge - roughly 5% of those who entered - but so far no one has successfully completed it.
GCHQ director Robert Hannigan, who set the string of teasers, offered a clue: "It's not as abstract as you think."
The deadline for entries is 31 January. Answers will be revealed in February.
sudoku crossword puzzle?
I don't even know what that's supposed to be
so the numbers represent the number of blocks that are meant to be black with at least a single space of white
from the website...
Each square is either black or white. Some of the black squares have already been filled in for you.
Each row or column is labelled with a string of numbers. The numbers indicate the length of all consecutive runs of black squares and are displayed in the order that the runs appear in that line. For example, a label "2 1 6" indicates sets of two, one and six black squares, each of which will have at least one white square separating them

You can bet you'd be offered a job interview if you solved this.

Job offer, interrogation as to which government you work for, same thing really.
Welp, it was too hard I guess. No one solved it in time

The problem with these puzzles is that they require a very specific mindset; you really just have to see it from their perspective.
That on the other hand is the hard part.

and apparently dudes who complete the puzzle entirely never talk about it again
Cicada's been going on for a while now...
I know that thanks
ive always been under the impression that whatever lies beyond the veil of cicada is probably not as exciting as we imagine. to me they just sound like people who've confused their talent with ulterior importance, confused math with philosophy, if you like.
