No long term side effects, other than contributing to bodily tolerance of classic hallucinogens (mushrooms, DMT, mescaline). You'll have the runs the day after. Short term effects are subjective, but can include nausea, altered perception/consciousness, time distortion, and closed and open eye visuals. The trip feels very dreamy, wondrous, and almost surreal, while retaining a sense of reality. You'll feel like you're in wonderland. There's also the possibility of philosophical epiphanies, potential ego death (can be positive, neutral, or negative... a negative ego death can induce a bad trip)
You have to be mentally prepared for shrooms to curtail the possibility of having a bad trip. If you have any unresolved mental issues you're dealing with (recent death of someone close, a breakup, or other trauma/issues) the shrooms will force you to confront the issues and resolve them. Shrooms are not a drug to be taken lightly, but if you take the proper precautions, it can be a very fun and fulfilling experience.
