An English BASE-jumper who became snagged on a cliff face in a jump gone wrong made a phone call to his girlfriend before falling to his death.
Jake Simkins, 41, spoke and sent messages to his girlfriend, who is six months pregnant, while suspended for three hours from the 274m cliff on the Greek island of Zante on Friday, The Telegraph reports.
Mr Simkins had jumped from the top of the cliff at Navagio beach but the rocks caught his parachute after he was blown back by the wind.
Emergency services tried in vain to reach Mr Simkins.
A spokesman from the local police said the BASE jumper told his girlfriend, who was at their hotel in Volima, everything that was happening.
"He was telling her to be calm, not to worry, was even advising her to put on sun tan oil and go do some sunbathing. Of course, he was writing all this before the rock broke loose and he fell to his death."
Thread title makes it sound like a suicide. On Topic: Poor guy, never going to see his child.
That is just tragic... I can't imagine how she feels :(

No. Snagged jumper immediately makes me think that something went wrong with a jumpers parachute.

What?!?! I was sure he wrote all that AFTER he fell to his death, I'm glad they cleared that up.

"Jumper" is commonly used as a euphemism for someone who jumps to their death.

I don't know where you come from, but here in Australia we tend to put Base before jumper, even if it's not off a building, so people don't think that it's someone killing themselves.
This is just horrible.
So a stolen Sweater called a girlfriend before death did? Wat?

Fair enough, but snagged just gave it away as parachute for me. I'm more condescending than I realize sometimes.
Still, if you ARE gong to lose your dad before you're born, a parachute accident is one of the most awesome ways.
Surely he would have checked the wind before jumping?

I'd rather he pull a James Potter. Even if he's the most alienated and in the end unimportant heroic father figure in fictive history. I mean. Snape was more of a father to him than James ever was. But i digress...
Absolutely awful. Probably called his wife to make sure she wasn't worried about him. Poor guy. D:

Did you even read the fucking post?
This reminds me of that girl that called her parents while she was being eaten alive by a bear.
This is terrible.
3 hours is a really long time though, couldn't he have called for help or something? Considering he DID have his phone with him.

No reception maybe.

Weather can change pretty randomly

You guys, it's like a paragraph...
Sensationalist headlines, no one reads the OP edition

Thanks. I feel horrible for laughing.

I'm here for you.
Sounds like a really great guy, calling his girlfriend and reassuring her in the way that he did.
A great guy might have considered giving up the base jumping once he had a child on the way.
These kinds of stories don't bother me at all.
"MAN DIES WHILE DOING INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS ACTIVITY"
At least he died doing something he seemingly enjoyed.
May he rest in peace and prayers to his family and friends
How could anyone "not" be worried when someone is a base jumper.
The worst possible thing that could happen, is HIGHLY likely to happen.
