Russell Brand, who became the face of the Anonymous group's protest in London last November, once again showed his support at tonight's march in the capital.
Live footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eib32B_KH6M&sns=fb
"wahhh we hate capitalism!" "but we still wear guy fawkes masks!" People really need to be more credible with their concepts. If you hate capitalism, fine, hate capitalism! At the very least though, remain true to your words. [editline]5th November 2014[/editline] Also on the live stream, "The guberment is evul!" "That why we are here!" No you are there to be whiny cunts about random and pointless things.
It been mostly boring to watch but every so often it kicks off. Cones get sighted and everyone cheers (on youtube) plus a copper got hit in the head with a one way sign lol

I suppose they have a better idea for a system that's fair, incorruptible, and flawless? An idea for a system that nobody else has ever thought of before?
I don't get the point of this protest tbh
I don't get the point of this protest tbh
neither do they
nah these guys can get fucked capitalism ftw profit lust is the reason video games and most other fun expensive things continue to exist
I remember Russell Brand went to one of these, and, in typical ignorance, removed the mask, destroying the original point behind the reason for wearing one in the first place.
A fun thing to remember about capitalism... This world is yours for the taking. In those regards, once you take it, you can choose what to do with it.

that also happened over here for some reason
I suppose they have a better idea for a system that's fair, incorruptible, and flawless? An idea for a system that nobody else has ever thought of before?
there is no such thing as a "incorruptible or flawless" system, and i'm pretty sure no one sane believes in that, on the other hand, to pretend that capitalism isn't horribly flawed is incredibly silly, so of course some will protest against it, especially when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer globally.

i agree with their point, it's a massive problem in the world, but wearing a guy fawkes mask and yelling is not the way to fix it
Nobody is going to get their critique of capitalism taken seriously when they're wearing those stupid masks. I understand keeping your face hidden. After the treatment Occupy got, it's a good idea to avoid being identified in that kind of protest. But please, choose something less eye-rollingly cheesy.
Because the alternatives to capitalism are great! Ask Russia and China, their human rights were great during the good ol' communist days!
Because that is the only alternative.
The only other economic systems I can think of involve either a very decentralized subsistence economy or one in which the state is responsible for directly organizing most economic activity. While both have their uses, most people weren't unhappy to see them go.
Often think the most obvious reply to a 'Wake Up' sign is 'Wake Up! There's nothing to actually wake up to'
Because the alternatives to capitalism are great! Ask Russia and China, their human rights were great during the good ol' communist days!
I remember seeing some survey about how people in those nations were happier with the way their countries were going than people in the US or many European countries. China especially.
Because the alternatives to capitalism are great! Ask Russia and China, their human rights were great during the good ol' communist days!
Some of the romanticism for communist Russia and other countries from people I know is pretty crazy. Like, are you just going to ignore all the atrocities they did to their own people by saying "they weren't doing it right"? Or even going all out and saying they did nothing wrong? I just can't find the reasoning.
How to not be taken seriously 101 1. Wear a mass produced mask sold by a capitalist company who wants to profit from you wanting to protest capitalism.
How to not be taken seriously 101 1. Wear a mass produced mask sold by a capitalist company who wants to profit from you wanting to protest capitalism.
This argument is dumb. The clothes they wear is the same, as are the shoes on their feet and the food in their bellies. They need to cover their faces, a balaclava would look too "terroristy" and would likely get them arrested on the spot, the mask has become synonymous with occupy/anarchism/protests. If they wore a different mask it would be likely mass produced also. How about focus on why their protest is dumb? When they say "greed kills" and imply capitalism is greedy and therefore capitalism is killing people, are they wrong? Why are they wrong if they say capitalism is unsustainable? Classical ad hominem, attacking the people not the argument.
Honestly looks nothing more crowded than a regular day in London. Though it's hella dark there, what's up with that? It's not that early.
Honestly looks nothing more crowded than a regular day in London. Though it's hella dark there, what's up with that? It's not that early.
It was guy fawkes night last night.
A fun thing to remember about capitalism... This world is yours for the taking. In those regards, once you take it, you can choose what to do with it.
Who would have thought! better tell all those sweatshop workers in Bangladesh that they can get rich only if they believe. Here I was thinking that complex interactions between social, cultural, economic, racial, educational, institutional and governmental factors were more important to success in a capitalist system than simple desire! Boy am I red in the face haha [editline]6th November 2014[/editline] also protesting 101: don't look like a cringy idiot
Tagging this here:
I like this one too:
I was at the Copenhagen Million Mask March last year, doing fieldwork. My biggest surprise was that there was no real aim behind the protest, not even anti-capitalism. Maybe anti-establishment? All sorts of people showed up, some wanting weed legalized, some blokes from the local pirate party dressed all in purple, and then a couple of weirdos ranting about airplane contrails. A surprising amount of old people, too. No focus, though. 30 minutes in, the entire ordeal (100ish people) was overshadowed by the arrival of a large crowd of Turkish football fans.
"fuck big corporations / capatalism" *proceeds to take a selfie with a copper with a iphone 6* I remember watching the livestream last night, they all ended up clearing off along with the RT journelist to some skatepark where they started skating, drinking and smoking weed. it was funny as fuck.
I can't take stuff like this serious when all they do is whine without offering a [s]good[/s] any alternative. If they had at least come saying "Hey, we think this system is broken, but we have this other thing and we'd like you to hear us out..." I at least wouldn't point and laugh at them.
