LYNN, Mass. -- An elementary student found a syringe outside of school and used it in Lynn.
“I was frightened. I don’t feel safe anymore sending him to school,” said Madeline Hernandez.
Madeline Hernandez’s 7-year-old Manuel came home from school Thursday with some pretty disturbing news.
Manuel says another 2nd grader in his class did his own special show-and-tell, displaying a hypodermic needle that he had found somewhere.
“He told the whole class, ‘Who wants a flu shot?’” said Manuel Ventura, student. “And everyone said, ‘No.’”
But as it turns out one little boy did agree to get an injection with the needle.
“It was not found in the schoolyard, but he brought it to school and apparently pretended to give his friend a flu shot with it,” said Dr. Catherine Latham, Lynn Superintendent of Schools.
Latham says the boy who brought the needle into school also got stuck it. Manuel insisted to his mom that he did not get stuck with it, but she plans to have him tested for HIV and hepatitis.
“I guess everybody is gonna have to get tested just to be on the safe side,” said Madeline Hernandez.
Hernandez is the one who alerted the school last Friday. Lynn police investigated and recovered the needle. The boy who had found it had tossed it away in the trash at a friend’s house.
Both boys who got stuck will be getting blood tests and are not in any trouble.
On Tuesday, the school safety officer showed all students examples of things they shouldn’t touch, such as guns, knives and needles.[/release]
That kid is fucking nuts... playing with a syringe?!
I can only imagine the kind of parenting he's being taught at home... :/
It's not the parent's fault. The kid was probably just honestly playing an innocent game of pretending to be doctor, and didn't grasp the gravity of finding a dirty needle and sticking it in someone. He's just a kid, after all.

Fucking nuts? He sounds like a normal kid to me. I'm sure 7 year olds know the dangers of syringes. The fact of the matter is that most don't.
The picture in the OP just overdoes though :v:
"Come here for your flu shot! I promise I will heal you!"
Is he holding a turkey baster?

I agree, but I insist, education starts at home. I would have never thought of playing with a piece of glass, nails or any sharp objects when I was a kid... I just knew that if I had, I would be in for an ass whoppin' :/

Well, maybe I grew up surrounded by kids who were taught not to play with any sharp objects or with whatever crap they find walking down the street...
This article's writing cofuses me
"found a syringe and used it in Lynn"

Yeah I know... it's poorly worded :/

But you called him fucking nuts and implied he had been taught wrong by his parents. Isn't that contradicting yourself?

This is a city school though.
Jesus, that's a fucking nightmare.
When I was a 7 year old, I didn't know much about syringes either.

Yeah well, I'm not really associating insanity with ignorance. What I mean is that even if he hasn't been taught about the dangers of playing with syringes (or any sharp object) by his parents, that kid doesn't know the difference between what's safe and what's dangerous--something that usually we learn by instinct, and that's what's worrying about all of this, specially at such short age.

Syringes don't exactly look dangerous.

if your only fear is the punishment you receive then its not good parenting

Yeah I know... my parents sucked at raising me, and look at me now :v:
Jesus, the kid is lucky he didn't die right out.
If you use an empty syringe and manage to hit a vein and inject air, the bubble goes straight to the heart and can cause a massive heart attack within seconds.
However, the amount of air that would be administered by a single small syringe is, in most cases, not enough to suddenly stop the heart, nor cause instant death.
idk probably not
I remember reading about someone who wanted to kill themselves this way, it was the first time I heard that it wouldn't actually kill you

You probably need a lot of air to do that.
I found my dad's razor blades at age four or something. Being such small cuts, I didn't even notice them until my mom saw me covered in blood. :v:

Single stroke from a bicycle pump is enough, I think.
Is he holding a turkey baster?
Actually, that goes up your anus.
Assume the position.
I found my dad's shaver thingy and attempted to do what he does
shave
and then theres blood everywhere
and then my little self never touched a sharp object
I was insanely scared of needles at that age (Still am slightly). I don't know what was going through his head grabbing something that doctors poke you with, then you get a fever.
Oops! Zhat vas not medicine!

Yeah, for adults you can resist some air, but a child? A 2nd grader is a tiny fraction of your size.

It is the parents fault. The parents should've banged the kids head against a wall while saying "IF YOU FIND A NEEDLE OR A SYRINGE YOU LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE GOD DAMMIT!"
I really hope they don't get HIV or hep. Even though this was a fucking stupid mistake, no one deserves to get their life fucked up like that, especially starting at that age. Thankfully, HIV is a fragile virus and can't live outside the human body for very long.
One of the rare occasion's where noone is to blame.........except for the cunt using drugs right outside a school and dropping his shit around.
