• Al-Jazeera walk-out: five female journalists quit
Apparently pantsuits are too cheeky for Al-Jazeera. Five female newscasters have walked out on their Al-Jazeera anchor positions after the Quatar-based company criticized them for their “clothes and decency,” according to the UK Daily Mail. The fracas allegedly occurred after the women repeatedly appeared on television wearing make-up and not covering their hair. Al-Jazeera claims they have the right to enforce a dress code that reflects their “spirit and principles.” The women also said that deputy editor-in-chief Ayman Jaballah made 'offensive remarks' about them and their choice of dress. The journalists (Joumana Nammour, Lina Zahr al-Din, Jullinar Mousa, Luna al-Shibl and Nawfar Afli) are well-respected in the region and have seen an outpouring of support from bloggers. Established in 1996, Al-Jazeera has attempted to stray from the government-dictated media of the region and compete with western outlets such as the BBC. This latest controversy is not likely to curry any favor with Arab moderates, and will bolster arguments in Washington that the station is an outlet for extremists.
:q: Source
It seems extremists in all religions are back in fashion! :D
Al-Jazzera is pretty fucking credible though.
I'd call them just as credible as Israeli news sources reporting on Israeli news. Al-Jazeera are extremely biased. Just like certain Israeli news are oppositely biased.
She's hot. I'd be Al up in her Jazeera.
I'd call them just as credible as Israeli news sources reporting on Israeli news. Al-Jazeera are extremely biased. Just like certain Israeli news are oppositely biased.
Actually no. Al-Jazzera is not biased at all. It is as neutral as the Haartez.
She's hot. I'd be Al up in her Jazeera.
You'd be "the" up in her "island"? I lol'd. Starpluck - it's so suppose to be just "Haaretz". Not "The Haaretz", since it translate into "The the land".
It seems extremists in all religions are back in fashion! :D
Middle-easterners asking women to cover their hair is hardly extremist. It'd be like CNN complaining if their female staffers came to work in a bikini top. As liberal and ethical as al-Jazeera is (and it is) it's still physically based in the Middle East, and as such it's going to reflect the mores and taboos of those countries.
Actually no. Al-Jazzera is not biased at all. It is as neutral as the Haartez.
Arabs reporting on Israel? Come on. Haartez has finally been catching on, with a lot more of their articles reflecting the need to settle relations between Gaza and Israel, but I'd still call it biased towards Israel. None the less, this isn't what the thread is about.
Arabs reporting on Jews? Come on. Haartez has finally been catching on, with a lot more of their articles reflecting the need to settle relations between Gaza and Israel, but I'd still call it biased towards Israel. None the less, this isn't what the thread is about.
Arabs reporting on Jews? You're telling me Arabs are against Jews?
Yes.
Yes.
Correction: Some of them.
Which still means yes ;)
Yes.
Please, just leave the thread, I thought you were actually pretty smart.
Which still means yes ;)
By that standard, everyone is against jews and nobody can report on them.
Middle-easterners asking women to cover their hair is hardly extremist. It'd be like CNN complaining if their female staffers came to work in a bikini top.
Yes.
This is funny because you just called someone out for racism in the other thread.
Not everyone is against Israel - however, with strained relations between Qatar (the article spells the country wrong :|) and Israel, it's likely to be a little more biased to Israel's opposition. It's similar to how the US's Government's relations with Iran will affect their reporting on Iranian issues.
I don't see how this makes the outlet any less credible. It's based in the Middle East, what do you expect?
I'd call them just as credible as Israeli news sources reporting on Israeli news. Al-Jazeera are extremely biased. Just like certain Israeli news are oppositely biased.
You're so onesided it's not even funny. You think it's biased simply because the "Al" in the name right? We might as well consider Alcohol and Algebra bias too because they're arab things. Al-Jazeera is one of the best news sources in the world, very few people deny this.
According to starpluck, it's not.
According to starpluck, it's not.
Let's not be childish here
It has a liberal slant so I suppose if you're some old white guy from America you may not like it.
Al-Jazeera is one of the best news sources in the world, very few people deny this.
CNN is one of the best news sources too! [editline]03:40AM[/editline]
Let's not be childish here
Fair enough.
Actually no. Al-Jazzera is not biased at all. It is as neutral as the Haartez.
Actually no. [Subject] is [opinionated claim]. It is [stupid analogy to support opinionated claim]. For the tee el dee arr crowd: [Opinion]. [Opinion]. [Opinion].
