A stunning new photo project offers unprecedented insight into the wild and desolate exclusion zone surrounding the Fukushima nuclear power plant - where tonnes of contaminated soil lie untouched and overgrown forest is engulfing hundreds of abandoned vehicles and homes.
The 12.5-mile exclusion zone around the nuclear plant now resembles post-apocalyptic scenes from The Walking Dead after it was instantly abandoned following the 2011 nuclear disaster.
People deserted the area after warnings of dangerous levels of radioactivity, leaving cars, classrooms and libraries to be swallowed by the overgrown wilderness in stark scenes reminiscent of those seen in the show, in which entire towns have been left in stasis after zombies overran the earth.
The black bags of contaminated soil go to show how time consuming it must be to try and decontaminate the area.
Damn I would just love to sneak in and spend a day exploring all the abandoned areas
Those completely unrouched locations are art. You would never really see something like that anywhere else in the world. It would of been looted twice over by now.
looks like it was quite good for the environment
Is like in Pripyat. Man, I wish I could visit these zones.
whats with the fucking walking dead references? lol
whats with the fucking walking dead references? lol
it's the daily mail, they're widely accepted as a pisspoor 'newspaper'
i think you know that anyway though
"Not long after the accident, cows started to get mysterious white spots on their skin. A farm owner suspects that this is due to the cows eating contaminated grass"
What kind of fucking comment is this?
There are some cool photos in this but I can feel the sensationalism.
Also people walking around measuring radiation having their alarms set at 15 uSv, it makes it look scary but you get higher radiation levels on a normal flight.
wow they were right, this image looks exactly like The Walking Dead

I don't really care about traveling and stuff, but exploring something like this would be super cool.
Looks ripped straight out of The Last of Us. Everything just frozen in time, all of those cars are going to be like a time capsule if the glass remains.
I remember the thread on facepunch back in 2011
man, that was crazy and unreal, and it still is, even though I'm looking at undeniable evidence that it happened, it's unbelievable that so many peoples lives were ruined.
It's amazing at how quickly nature has taken over. I mean in a little over 4 years it looks like that. I honestly thought some wildlife would have moved in but not to that extent

Gotta remember there was also massive flooding so everything was covered in mud = quick growth.
It's a road with thousands of dollars worth in cars just standing around, holy shit
wow they were right, this image looks exactly like The Walking Dead

Are they white spots I can see on the side of that horse?
Damn I would just love to sneak in and spend a day exploring all the abandoned areas
And then Die of cancer many years later
It's a road with thousands of dollars worth in cars just standing around, holy shit
Not a road. A designated place to store contaminated cars
Damn I would just love to sneak in and spend a day exploring all the abandoned areas
Bet you can find some nice artifacts.
Heh, "scribbles".

I was hoping they would take more pictures than that. I know there's a video but I was kinda hoping for more.

That's the video I was talking about, but thanks anyway :v:

chernobyl has a similar setting
Give it a coupla years, if they don't decontaminate the area it'll end up being reclaimed by the wilds, like that one super-condensed mining island they abandoned.
No, not the poor CRTs :c
"A post-apocalyptic drama in which zombies have taken over the earth, and the lives of those killed have been left behind in stasis"
Did they just spoil some major future plot-twist for me? Or what the hell are they even trying to say with that?
no? it means they turn into zombies
[editline]8th October 2015[/editline]
unless discovering zombies = dead people is a spoiler for you
How many times are they going to repeat 'the earthquake caused the tsunami'
before the tsunami struck the region, triggering a reactor meltdown

the earthquake, which led to the tsunami that triggered the disaster.

The disaster was triggered by an earthquake which generated the tsunami

Caused by a 50ft tsunami following a major earthquake on March 11, 2011
Why did they feel the need to repeat this over and over in the same article?
whats with the fucking walking dead references? lol
I was about to say the same thing, was it really needed?
