I saw an application a while back that, while pretty expensive, had the power to generate realistic instrument noises. Does anybody happen to know what it is? I saw it posted hereabouts awhile ago.
I think FL Studio is pretty good at making rather realistic instrument sounds, but I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to.
I think this one is more for professional orchestrations, but thanks anyway.
Any other ideas?
Edirol Orchestral is a great VST plugin that you can use with most music making software (Fl Studio, Cubase). It has a lot of orchestral instruments including drums and piano. It's kinda expensive though. But you probably won't find any decent orchestra software for free.
Guitar Pro?
It's got a tool to realistically emulate guitar, bass and drum sounds.

Guitar is for learning to play music.
Maybe Reason?
