My old desk chair, which I'd owned for 6 years finally bit the dust :frown:. I found a replacement which was cheap and comfortable, so I bought it. The new chair had arms, which I planned to remove. After all... you can't easily play a guitar in a chair with arms.
When I got home and started to put it together I found out I had a problem. The chair's arms hold the back on. So if I took the arms off I'd have a stool, not a chair. What to do?
I got creative with some 1.5x.25" steel. After an hour or so with a bench grinder, drill, and circular saw, I wound up with this. The metal is sprayed with 3 layers of clear so it wont rust.
Sorry for the bad pics but I only got one shot with the decent camera before the battery died, the other two were taken with my phone.

Thought it came out pretty slick for $14 and an hours work. I kept the arms so I haven't voided the warranty. If something should break, I just bolt the arms back on and return it for free replacement :science:
Thoughts?
All i have to say is. Id buy it xD
I think it looks better than i expected judging by the title.
So all you did was add some metal plates to the side? That's some crazy mod.

The plates are the only thing holding the back of the chair to the seat. Thought it was a pretty neat solution.
I had the same problem as you, but i just got a second chair in my room instead. playing a bulky acoustic does not work in an armed chair
I think I have nearly the same chair as you, OP.

un-modded, of course.
:iia: I love it.
i have bought 4 chairs since i got a computer, and i must say
THEY ALL SUCK. they make me feel like i have spinibifita. i need a really poofy chair. an armchair on wheels. :downs: epic.
Spraypaint the bars black so it doesn't look as obvious.
Add a 5 point harness for stability
Why not just buy a separate chair? I can't stand computer chairs without arms.
