I have a problem. You see, ever since I was a kid, I've always been a snitch. And even when I consciously try to alleviate the problem, I just can't seem to keep my mouth shut.
It all started when I was a kid. My older brother and I used to fight, just as every set of brothers do. The thing is, when I would get hurt, I would tell on my brother like a rat. It's not that I necessarily wanted him to get in trouble, more so I just wanted to get even for him hurting me. I hated myself for doing it.
When I was 16, I worked at a bowling alley. My brother and a friend were messing around and decided to tag up on a bathroom stall. When I saw it, I immediately got the owner of the bowling alley and without even thinking, I told him it was my older brother who defiled the stall (I recognized the tag). The owner made my brother repaint the entire bathroom.
When I was 17, I had a friend who always used to pretend he was more important than he actually was and had connections in high places. One day, he told me he heard that Al Queda was going to plan another bombing. I asked him how, he said he knew someone who had connections. Again, without even thinking, I called the FBI hotline and told them this. A week later, 2 FBI agents were at my doorstep asking me questions about him. When they got there, I realized what I had done, but it was too late. They asked me for his address so I gave it to them. Nothing even came of it, but still, it was such a shitty thing to do.
I'm such a damn rat and I can't help it. I always rat people out without even thinking and I don't realize what I did until it was too late. I know you guys are thinking, "wow, this dude is a fucking tool," but I'm bringing this up because I want to remedy this problem. What can I do to .... start thinking before I open my big mouth?
