Ok Im not really sure how everything is going to go down, so before I cant access facepunch anymore I will let you all know whats going on, and when civil war breaks out you know ill be on the front line. Think im over exagerating? well get comfy and ill let you all know whats been happening. Firstly after the Port Arthur massacre Australia banned all automatic weaponry, since then they have been tightening their grip, they spent an ungodly amount of money removing weapons from the hands of innocent civilians, who also handed in their weapons thinking that it was making society "safer" we know this is not the case as criminals did not hand their weapons in and now the general public is unarmed. Stage one: Disarm the Public. Now we are hearing of the "Mandatory Internet Filter" this system is simliar to ones used in Korea that filter free speech. The government is spinning this as "Protecting Children" from harmfull material, things like bestiallity, child abuse, hardcore pornorgraphy etc. Now the way they are spinning it sounds good, however it will not be protecting them from these things, like say pedophils will still use the networking sites to stalk prey, those sites wont be blacklisted. However this system cold effectively be used to silence the Australian public, it could cut contact off and is probably going to do so in some instances. Stage Two: Disable Communication. One thing that is already in place is a "nanny" like mindset, we cannot be trusted to make decisions about what we view or what is appropriate for us. The government is "protecting us from ourselves" this mentality carries over to the final stage, as it makes way for it to be accepted. Enforceing legislation that is not in the publics interest, for instance South Australias Attorny General Micheal Atkinson has it in his head that Australia cannot be trusted with and R18+ rating for video games (although we do have one for movies and other media) Now the Australian public supports this however Mr Atkinson does not so he just vetos it (each state AG has to agree for it to be put in place) He literally decides that we cannot have a R18 although we want it, apparently "god" decided it was up to him to protect us from ourselves. But the probably scariest one is the Internet filter I hope your ready for this. 2.9% of Australians Strongly support the Internet Filter. 51.5% of Australians Strongly OPPOSE it. But the Government are going to do it anyway although the citizens DONT WANT IT. Stage Three: Impliment laws against the public, enforce legislations created without the consent of the citizens. Its getting closer im afraid, and Facepunch may be blacklisted simply because of furries or (since we dont have an R18 for vidoegames) any R18+ material on here and the site would be banned, I dont watch Furries but shouldnt I have the choice to? I want to make my own decisions and its amazing how powerless you feel when they are being made for you, I know this isnt what I want but I dont have a choice, Democracy is dead in Australia and when it comes down to it we will have to depend on our allies to save us from our government.
kevin rudd killed democracy
51.5% of Australians Strongly OPPOSE it. But the Government are going to do it anyway although the citizens DONT WANT IT.
I am now sad and angry.
start a revolt if you hate it so bad
The country I live in has an Internet filter it sucks DICK
by the way things are going he's not going to have to start the fight.
Time to erase Australia from places I want to vacation to
Also facepunch won't get blacklisted as long as you australians keep your mouth shut about it and don't let anyone you know find out
Op needs to learn the difference between direct and representative democracy.
I thought Australians were hardcore, but you guys just take it in the ass like the rest of us it seems. :saddowns:
why do people even live in australia anyway barren desert with nothing interesting on it -> barren desert with nothing interesting on it besides a bunch of exiles -> barren desert with a country on it
Also facepunch won't get blacklisted as long as you australians keep your mouth shut about it and don't let anyone you know find out
You know there are those Christian Extremist types (I have nothing against christianity byt the way just when its forced on others like the crusades) that will be searching for sites like this. This place i popular and full of freedom of speech in every aspect, they will have nothing of it.
australia is like the alabama of the world
You know there are those Christian Extremist types (I have nothing against christianity byt the way just when its forced on others like the crusades) that will be searching for sites like this. Like I said, just keep your mouth shut and you'll be ok for a while
why do people even live in australia anyway barren desert with nothing interesting on it -> barren desert with nothing interesting on it besides a bunch of exiles -> barren desert with a country on it
Because when the British started using it as a penal colony people just sort of stayed there.
Op needs to learn the difference between direct and representative democracy.
representative democracy usually means that if the majority want something so bad, a representative will either adopt it as a policy and become voted in, or they won't vote. this isn't representative democracy occurring here.
Pic relevant. (Funny story with this as well, i recall posting it before...) This seriously sucks for you aussies, the situation truly is bullshit if the figures posted by OP are correct. Federal parlimentary democracy my ass.
You can always leave the country if you hate it so much.
It's not very ironic that the convict country is also the most security tight one.
Because when the British started using it as a penal colony people just sort of stayed there.
i didnt mean it like that
You can always leave the country if you hate it so much.
I love the country and I wouldnt live anywhere else, but im afraid its going to change maybe we will have to fight for it, its not just a desert its beautifull and just because the british used it as a penal colony doesnt mean they didnt realise what they had found, ie its a country now.
So, no more porn for you? That's awful... At least there are proxies.
Everyone with a gun is a potential murderer. You see, the funny thing about people is that when they're scared, the act irrational. It's just how shit is. Remember this?
Yes but the thing is, how many cases like this do you hear of? It's one in a million. Or at least the odds of things like this happening are very low. Also, consider the Australia's population density. It's not very high, is it?
So, no more porn for you? That's awful... At least there are proxies.
Any internet filter worth its salt blocks proxie websites and keywords
I don't know, but it would be lower without guns wouldn't it.
Yes but there's very few guns there anyway, especially in the cities. So what's the point? Think about it.
Any internet filter worth its salt blocks proxie websites and keywords
Yes, but new proxies are released often. I've subscribed to one myself, and there's about one new proxy every other day.
oh god don't turn this into another gun debate
representative democracy usually means that if the majority want something so bad, a representative will either adopt it as a policy and become voted in, or they won't vote. this isn't representative democracy occurring here.
No, it means that people vote for someone to represent them. It's what Australia, USA, UK, etc all use. Just because a decision is unpopular with the people, doesn't really mean the government will change it. If the government bent to the people's will all the time, or if the people voted on all decisions you'd have a direct democracy, which is impossible to maintain when you have a large populace, such as the population of Australia. For the sake of efficiency, governments must make most decisions on the people's behalf. Though there are exceptions, like referendums, though those are just used as publicity stunts.
Good thing I've never even planned on visiting Australia. How can a western democratic system be so fucked up :D You're are definitely "Down Under" in the list of countries supporting invidual freedoms xD
Point is that normal people won't run the risk of getting shot by accident. Criminals are gonna have guns no matter how much you restrict it.
Criminals aren't scared of the police most of the time. They're scared of ordinary, armed citizens who will do anything to protect themselves and their families.
