NO ROOF rack? No problem - or so thought the driver of this vehicle.
The male driver was stopped by police after he was spotted driving on Wiltshire St, Salisbury, with a TV cabinet strapped to his car bonnet.
The incident happened on Thursday, September 13, at 3.40pm.
Elizabeth Police Superintendent David O'Donovan said the driver's actions were "dangerous and absolutely ridiculous''.
"While the picture itself might seem humorous, this could easily have ended in tragedy with someone seriously injured or killed if the cabinet had come off while driving,'' Supt O'Donovan said.
"Not to even mention the fact that the driver simply could not see what was in front of him, which is generally fairly important when you are driving.
"The risks posed to occupants of the vehicle and anyone else who happened to be in the near vicinity are enormous.
"People need to stop and think and please put safety first at all times when driving.''
The driver was issued with an expiation notice for driving without having a clear view of the road.
I like how the woman to the left of the police officer has pretty much face palmed
For your information, Salisbury is pretty much the really low income area of Adelaide
And he didn't even consider just strapping it to the roof or trunk?
What?

They don't. They don't bother to engage higher order processes.

I own a stationwagon with a towhitch, and plenty of people I can bum a trailer from.
Hauling shit isn't a problem for me.

In Australia we call them Utes, and most people know someone with one

Aren't they more like a large stationwagon with everything from behind the front seats cut off and a big wooden/metal board bolted onto instead?

Amazing, you found a photo of one car, proving that every Australian drives one and that you were right
Are you seriously arguing a Australian when it comes to utes?

If by face palm you mean using a point and shoot camera to take a picture, than yes... she is "face palming"
I see people strap stuff to their roof or trunk, by the hood of the car?

Even better are the people who think they can hold a mattress down on the roof of their car one handed at highway speeds
I even remember this one thing, might have been on craigslist come to think of it, where a guy thought he'd be clever and steal some 4x8 sheets of plywood from a construction zone. He put something like 8 or 10 sheets on top of his truck and then took off. Everything was fine until he had to make a sudden stop, and then the whole load shot forward, landed on his hood, and went right on through, ripping his radiator, and anything else further forward, right off the car.
EDIT: It looks like this guy did damage to his body work too.
that reminds me of that Norwegian driver who got pulled over for speeding and it turned out he was having sex in the driver's seat (while speeding)
I love intellegent people they make me smile.
And he didn't even consider just strapping it to the roof or trunk?
What?

I was once driving behind a pickup truck that was carrying a backhoe on the truck. And I don't mean on a trailer. They parked the backhoe directly behind the pickup truck, and lowered the hydraulic arm down over the bed of the truck, and tied it up to the truck.
So the pressure of the backhoe's arm was the only thing keeping the thing from smashing into the car behind it. It toppled over as the truck passed an at-grade railroad crossing.
