[release]A cook at a local bar and restaurant is being called a hero after his quick thinking saved another man's life Wednesday night in downtown Lafayette.
D.T. Kirby's cook Todd Dotson was taking a break, smoking outside the bar a little after 11:00 p.m. that night. He said that is when he and a customer heard a woman screaming for help from the roof of a building at 188 North Sixth Street in downtown Lafayette, just a few feet from D.T. Kirby's.
"I was standing (on the corner) and Brian, the patron, was standing right here. We looked up and she was standing right there. Holding him over the edge. Basically, all of his legs and everything, his back was against, laying out toward the wall. He was looking towards sixth street. He was basically hanging by his legs," said Dotson.
Dotson said that when he realized what was happening, he knew he had to act quickly.
"Instinct took over. I just took off running. Around the stairs, over a couple of roofs. Grabbed a hold of the man," Dotson explained. "She was standing between both (his) legs and had her arms wrapped when I got there. When I got there, I grabbed the right side. She moved onto the left side. Then, it was just struggling back and forth for the next five to seven minutes until I got him onto the dormer. At one point he had slipped out of her hand and I had him by one ankle and he was just dangling there."
Dotson said that is when he realized his only option was to try and move the man, Eric Romesburg, to the dormer above the window.
"I got him to the dormer. Laid him down. Reached up, picked him up and pulled him over," Dotson said. "It seemed like an eternity. You know, when you are holding a man's life in your hands. Every second seemed like minutes, hours."
Relieved that Romesburg was safe, the realization of what could have happened sank in.
"The next thing I know, the young lady embraced me and started crying and thanked me. It was pretty much we both broke down and cried right there," said Dotson.
Romesburg was safely brought down from the roof of the building by the Lafayette Police Department.
Dotson said it is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to him and something he will never forget.
Lafayette Police Sergeant Brian Phillips said Romesburg was intoxicated and was taken to the hospital to make sure he was okay.[/release]
And they said smoking kills.

Can a mod change the title? The g looked like a c to me.
Thought this was gonna be racist for a moment.
Almost just smoldering ashes on the ground, the sidewalk would be the ash tray.

Wait, what? Is there something wrong with ashing your cig on the sidewalk?
You might want to beg a mod to fix the error in your title...
prismatex you should request that your title be fixed at risk of being mistaken for clint eastwood from grand torino

It's only been 6 minutes he should be able to edit still.

Fixed the title.
Best typo ever.

No he is the edit king. Plus Asian cooks always go on smoke breaks. Or at least that is what I have seen.
For some reason, I have no idea what this is about. The description of what's going didn't help me at all.
should've left the title for posterity

You should give him a custom title. Like the gook cook.

Before anyone gets here and asks what the typo was it was gook.
What happened to cause the guy to be "dangling" by his feet?

On par with the "Niggerian President" instead of "Nigerian" thread title typo some months ago.
I missed the typo too.
What was it?
It was "Gook on smoke break saves man dangling from building"
So he climbed onto the window and helped him?
