• McAfee offers unlimited online storage
Security company McAfee has launched on online backup service costing US$5 a month, similar to other such services, but offering unlimited storage space. The service is available for free trial in the U.S. and will be offered in other countries by the end of the year. McAfee Online Backup is "powered by Mozy" -- a longstanding online backup provider -- and contents are secured by McAfee technology. Marketed to consumers, the service offers automatic backup and unlimited storage space (though the company warns that customers' use may be affected by their ISPs' data transfer limits). It also encrypts the stored data and gives it the protection of "the world’s largest dedicated security company," according to the announcement. Since Mozy itself also offers unlimited storage for about the same price and advertises the security and encryption of stored data, the McAfee brand name would seem to be one of the new service's major selling points. The service is already available in the U.S. for a 30-day free trial; annual subscriptions are $59.99. By the end of the year, the service should be available in 27 more countries, including all of Europe, much of Asia, Canada, and Australia. So far, the service is Windows-only, requiring Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. Source: http://www.itwire.com/content/view/28177/53/
This could so be used for warez... I wonder if it's being abused yet.
Probably, idiots.
This is going to cause their lawyers a lot of ear ache.
Thanks for this, i needed some form of safe backup incase of house fires and stuff for my hundreds of gigs of files, now ive taken out a Mozy account :)

Misleading title, I thought it was free :( *sigh*

I should store mounds of porn there. :smug:
Hahaha; We should test this. Just put on all your steam games... 1,000 times.
I wonder how long it will take for them to shut down the service? it's gonna be filled up very very fast, so their either going to shut down or bankrupt themselves by buying new hardware.
Brb uploading the internet
Someone should upload terabytes of porn.
I bet eventually 4chan is going to have a go at overloading their servers.
Ok, this thing sucks. I told it what i wanted backed up. 10 mins later it came back to me saying it would take 3 weeks... Fuck this
Someone should upload terabytes of porn.
Ahem..

If it's a backup only, you can't link to your files anyway, so who cares if warez are there.
Govt. wants your files man.
Well, it's much better than most services but I'll stick to Megaupload Premium.
Copy everything onto a terabyte drive, store it in a briefcase, drive to the cemetery and bury it.
Make sure to put the cap on first. Don't want maggots eating them datas.
copy your 1TB HD onto it.

But if he does, they can just ban his acc. Simple as that.

This is more trouble than it's worth for McAfee
Will they see what I'm uploading? I don't want them to confiscate my porn... :ohdear:
Will they see what I'm uploading? I don't want them to confiscate my porn... :ohdear:
Yep. You're fucked man.
I don't like McAfee. At All
Some douche is probably gonna upload a bigass file just to piss people off.
I'm giving the service 2 months before they shut it down due to abuse.
