• We won’t know what’s in the Republican health-care repeal plan until they pass it
Public opinion about the Affordable Care Act is consistently favorable and on an upswing. Faced with the prospect of repeal, crowds of constituents are confronting lawmakers across the country to express their anguish in town halls. But still, Republicans are rushing to rip apart the health insurance coverage that millions of people depend on. That rush is a particularly bitter irony for anyone who, like me, worked on writing the ACA originally. Republicans accused Democrats eight years ago of drafting the health-care law in secret, despite dozens of public hearings and work sessions. But now it’s their own process that is highly secretive, with U.S. Capitol Police guarding a basement room where the draft legislation is kept hidden from voters, the news media and even members of Congress. The GOP tried to use one quote in particular to drive its message back then. In 2010, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.” What Pelosi meant was that people would realize the benefits of the law once they became tangible — which is exactly what polling shows has happened. But Republicans spun and truncated the quote to suggest that Democrats were hiding something.
SOURCE: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2017/03/03/we-wont-know-whats-in-the-republican-health-care-repeal-plan-until-they-pass-it/?hpid=hp_regional-hp-cards_rhp-posteverything%3Ahomepage%2Fcard&utm_term=.33ec10b3fd82 This twitter thread basically tells all why this is such bullshit on the GOP's part. Spoiler: It's gonna be trash because they're not willing to do any of the things that actually work.
Good thing it won't be passed, since any replacement plan they'd pass would need to go through a traditional vote in the Senate, and they'd need to pick up eight Democratic Senator's votes to avoid a filibuster.
best-case scenario, they pass an exact copy of obamacare in its current state with some incredibly minor changes, call it "trumpcare" and pretend they did some great thing
best-case scenario, they pass an exact copy of obamacare in its current state with some incredibly minor changes, call it "trumpcare" and pretend they did some great thing
Considering some people think there is a difference between Obamacare and ACA, they could only change the nickname and people would celebrate them.

The sad part is that there are a lot of Republican voters whose lives depend on the ACA.
The sad part is that there are a lot of Republican voters whose lives depend on the ACA.
Maybe if they live long enough, they'll vote Democrat next time. No teacher quite like experience, right?
they ain't gonna replace it with anything, lol. why do you think they're avoiding town halls like cowards.
best-case scenario, they pass an exact copy of obamacare in its current state with some incredibly minor changes, call it "trumpcare" and pretend they did some great thing
it'll probably be something with the word "freedom" in it, like "Health Care Freedom Act" or some shit

As a senator, I'd rather be playing Metal Gear Solid 3DS than listening to someone reading Dr. Seuss if they insist on wasting hours of my time to try and fuck over America.

I wonder how many republican politicians are Christian Scientists who refuse medication or treatment in any capacity Knowing how batshit most of them are it really wouldn't surprise me if a few are purposely sabotaging healthcare for insane religious reasons, as they do with most other things anyway
The analysis in the part quoted in the OP seems to tally misunderstand the Republican attack on Pelosi's statement. They weren't saying that it was made in secret so that no one knew what was in it. They were saying that it was so incredibly massive and yet being pushed through so quickly, that no one had time to even know what was in it.

Still hypocrisy dude. Although, I suppose something large and well-thought out IS a bit of a stretch where Republicans are concerned. Probably be a bit like Theresa May's Brexit Whitepaper in its original state. A paragraph of brainless dribble.

Tens of millions of people stand to lose their coverage, and rightfully want to know what the hell is happening with that, and yet the Republican response is complete silence. We can't even get answers on the bare basics of what we're going to see. Will pre-existing conditions still be guaranteed coverage? Will people still be able to stay on family plans until the age of 26? The GOP won't answer any questions, they're not attending town halls, they're not responding to emails, they're not taking calls -- the people are being totally shut out of this process. The draft is literally kept behind a locked door. It's extremely hypocritical to complain about the Democrats' drafting and implementation of the ACA, only to turn around and be even shadier about your replacement plan lol.
